After doing a bit of research I simply upgraded by globes to brighter H4 globes. I purchased these from UK website and costed approx $50 delivered. There is noticeable increase in brightness and light is a bit whiter. This is when I did not go for brightest globes (mine is only 60% more as these are supposed to last longer). so perhaps have a go at upgrading globes before moving to HID. Just by 2c worth.

HID upgrades on the 120's headlight is not recommended. They are more trouble than they are worth

Better to get some better halogen bulbs like Phillips Xtreme.

HID on reflector type headlights is a big no no and especially as your vehicle is high off the ground. The mirror inside the headlamp will scatter the light and blind oncoming traffic. I made this mistake in my old WRX (much lower than a prado) and amount of people complaining made me change it back very quickly

                powerbulbs.com ?

I sourced both low and high beam replacement globes (Osram Nightbreakers) from Powerbulbs. Got both those and a free pair of white parks for for my 150 for less than you could buy one pair here (around $100).

Mind you - someone managed to melt my left hand light a little by leaving the lights on for an extended period.

I did the upgrade and then lowered the lights below the perfect line. No flashes back at me at all in over 6 months. I don't understand the light scatter comments either, mine seem fine?

I must say though that one off the units has started humming, but that's a different thread.....

that is correct. I bought Philips Vision Plus for mere $30 delivered with side bulbs thrown in.

I went with this particular globe because on various forums people said that extra bright globes dont last that long.

At any rate, I am quite happy in the noticeble increase in brightness & throw of light and the light is much whiter compared to OEM.

For the driving I do (mostly city or highway) this globe is more than sufficient.

I'm with you on this one MLC - while I understand that they may not be ADR compliant, once installed and adjusted properly the difference between the standard incandescent bulbs and the HID's is chalk and cheese.

I also, have not had any oncoming traffic high beam me as a result of the lights shining in their eyes.

Part of me wishes someone would though, the 30 inch light bar is remarkably quick to light up. The missus would immediately send me to my room for being naughty but it would be worth it. Those going to the gtg will see I am not joking.

                            Hi Chaddy93,

I had a similar situation with dodgy converstion kits and nearly reverted back to halogens despite knowing the improvement in driving experience after dark was far superior lit by a pair of HID 6000 temp headlights.

I took one more gamble and purchased from eBay seller e-tycoon. I also upgraded my power leak device/relay in the secondary H4 socket to a high quality one from gpautohause, also an eBay seller.

This solved my lights dropping out constantly when flicking on high beams and driving lights due to the negative charged headlight set up of the prado, which I believe had affected the life of the ballasts.

Hope this assist, I'm no longer scared of the dark!!

                            Dave.

                              hi all,

this seems to be an interesting topic.
I believe what I have in the car now is Narva plus 50's.
I would prefer to stick to the generic H4's ( to cut down on all the wiring that comes with HID kits ), but Im to used to having HIDS
( Previous car was a VZ 6ltr with all HID lights for 2 years )

Joel I looked on the Xray website and seen they do offer a generic H4 globe, is that what you have or do you have HID's?
