  • G'day from a newbie to Prado's

    G'day All,
Well after too'ing and fro'ing between a Hilux, or Prado,.. I picked up my new (to me) '08 Prado GLX, 6 Speed Deisel. This is my first Deisel, and my First Prado. I am totally stoked with it. It has only had one owner before me, and has a full service History. I drove it back from Sydney today, back to Newcastle, and it drives like a dream. I am totally wrapped. I "had to" pull into ARB already to get a catalogue and I am really looking forward to starting to camp, and hit the beach!!

I asked the ARB guys and they said that no one around here does 4WD'ing courses. I am not after anything to drastic, but just after something to teach me how to be safe on the beach etc,....can anyone recommend something/someone.

I am totally stoked with it,... and can't wait to put it to good use,....

    Cheers all
    jeremy

Welcome from a fellow 08 GXL diesel owner. The guy I did my course with is starting to run courses up in Newcastle/central coast area this year I believe. He also does them near Lithgow. Basic and advanced on offer. I'll PM you the details

Have you thought about the Toyota Landcruiser club of Australia Sydney. The annual membership includes basic truing, plus many more training courses, like sand driving on Stockton Beach. Good luck. Might see you around. Michael

Try out of town 4x4 at Barnsley Newcastle, not only can they fit out your car including ARB but also run Driver Training courses [I have no dealings with the company but have heard ok things about them]

Was going through the manual last night,... and couldn't find reference to the Idle Up switch,.... I am assuming this is for cold weather ?? and where would I find the Colour code?,.. it was listed as Powder White,... but is there a code or anything if I want to get a touchup pen etc??

            Cheers

Yes, the idle up will only work when you are in a cold environment. You can get the colour code from inside the owners manual front inside cover where all the VIN and engine serial number details are or open the bonnet and there will be a little plate on the drivers side firewall near the brake booster.

Talk to QUICKY I beleive he has seen a sand dune or two in his time in a prado. He drives a 200 now but, I'm sure he remembers.
I would say that there are a few members on here that do remember if he doesn't.

Well i gotta admit i love this thing,.. I love driving it!!,... the colour code is sorted,... Powder White I believe, code 056, and played with the idle up button,.. to see what it does,...so all set for cold starts,... decided against the bonnet scoop like tyne Hilux,... as i discovered how the intercooler gets cold air,... sup[riosed my toyota Dealer didn't know,.... I just popped the lid,.. and just sat there and thought, there is now way an intercooler would not get cold air of some sort,... the found the 2 scoops behind the grill,.. and hey presto,... found the Y channel of cold air to the intercooler,....

The dealer I bought it from put new road tires on it, (Bridgestone Dueler H/T's).. so I am planning a trip to Nth Queensland in a fortnight,.. and when I come back Ill be looking for a set of tyres I can take on the beach,.... and nothing to wicked, but the odd dirt track to some good campsites around the Barringtons... so if anyone has suggestions for tyre choice that would be fantastic,.... anyway,...time to drive again!

Yep as long as there is a pressure difference each side of the intercooler it will work - some designs only have a tiny pressure difference, but it is enough to allow a cooler air stream through the cooler, given the engine nice dense air.

As for tyres... The main thing would be to make sure they are Light Truck (LT) construction, this will ensure a lot less punctures... tread pattern is down to individual needs and desires.

just noticed for the first time tonight, that when the lights are on i.e.: night,.. that my Temp control buttons, on and Auto switches for the climate control do not illuminate,... everything else does,.. but not those 4,... closest to the drivers side. I pulled the console out to see if a plug had come loose but it's all one unit,... is this standard, and I have just not noticed,.. or is there an issue with lack of backlighting in these 4 switches??.....

                        Cheers

The bulbs have blown for those switches. You'll need to contact your dealer as they are some very special tiny bulbs. All those buttons are on the same PCB and from memory, there are 5 bulbs that are on that PCB.

G'day, well took the Prado for a run to Nth QLD and back,... and all i can say is, the car is fantastic to drive,... I am so glad I have this car now. The drive up was a bit rough,.... but i put that down to the tyre place that did my wheel alignment,.. the young bloke put the pressure up to 40!!,... i have since dropped it back to 32 PSI and its a much nicer ride ,..... AMTS,.. thanks for the Info on the bulbs,... I now have 4,.. and planning to replace them when i get some time on the weekend,.. from your link to your previous posts,..it shouldn't be too hard to get to the PCB where they go right?,.....

I am also looking at doing an install of a new GPS stereo head unit,..http://www.elinz.com.au/buy/toyota-c...s-prado/toyota and going to tackle that at the same time,... from what i can gather they supply the harness,..so there should be no cutting and splicing of wires,... (fingers crossed)

Anyway,... Just loving this prado,.... can wait to actually try the 4WD functionality on the beach,.... but going to make sure i have a set of TREDS or MAXTRAXX before i do,...
