  • HELP! How do I get the rear licence plate mount and light hood off/on

    Hey all,

So the Mrs backed into a pole about 3 weeks after we bought the Prado, that was 2 years ago. I finally found a replacement part at a wrecker yesterday and figured while I;m waiting around for cyclone Ita I'll knock this 'little' job of the list.

Well I'm a bit stuck. Clearly most of the Plastic hood is held on with those little plastic push clip things but there is one actual screw. It is dual sided so one side goes into the prado door, the other screws into the plastic hood.

How the hell do I do that?

some pictures to try and help my explaination.

This is the hood lined up with the door:

This is the double sided screw, the smaller side goes into the door, the larger side sticks out to be screwed into the hood:

This is what it looks like in the door:

This is the threaded part on the hood:

So as you can see, the push in plastic clips and respective slots on the hood can all be attached and slide to the right to lock in, but by that stage there isn't room to be screwing in the bolt?

    What am I missing here?

You need to access the inside of the back door to get the screw out.

hmmm, I had thought that would be the case, I was hoping to avoid removing the grey plastic inside the door.

Ok next question, removing the grey plastic inside the door.... is the whole thing just plastic clips?

Matt the plastic clips and the threaded bolt all fit in the holder which is then pushed onto the door. As piggy says you need to get access inside the door (search for the reversing camera threads I think LFaR showed how to remove the liner but it isn't hard anyway) and then put the nut on the threaded section.

Worked a treat. A real help to know where all the plastic clips were.
