  • Grande GPS Map CD read fault

Hi I have just noticed in the last two days my GPS keeps telling me the map disk can’t be read. I have tried to remove the CD disk from the unit but it’s stuck and will not eject for some reason. Has anyone had a similar issue before? The last time I removed the CD was to update to the latest map 3 year back and it was fine.
Seems to be the navigation drive is faulty, anyone know where one could get this repaired.

Try burning another copy of the CD and reload before going to the expense of repairing the unit. It worked for me.

Bit hard to do when the disk is stuck in the drive.

Is there power going to the drive? Can you hear noises that the disk is being accessed? Have you slid the button cover over to allow for disk ejection?

          Hi Andrew,

Yep the disk is spinning and the display will show a map for 3-4 seconds then come up with the disk error.
I called Toyota they said I must bring it in at $140 to tell me what I already know. They will not just send the unit away for repair.

Have you looked for any error codes? Might be a good starting point if you taking the "take to shop" route

Have see you get universal all in one DVD, Radio and sound system on eBay that claim to fit the Toyota Prado. Has anyone here replaced their GPS, radio unit in a grande prado 120 series with one of the aftermarket universal DVD radio and GPS player? If so please let me know which one fits the Prado Grande 2004 120. And how difficult it is to install /replace the standard Toyota display.

i am having the same issues with mine mate but my disk will eject it just won't read so i am going to be replacing my unit with a pioneer one that looks a little more appealing and has some better functions than the shitty standard one...

Thanks, yes some of the current units have very cool features. Witch Pioneer model are you installing? And will it fit the properly.

                        Hi Ywork

I was wondering how you went with a replacement GPS as my Grande GPS is no longer reading the map disk and Toyota as you want to charge me $140 to tell me it's broken, I had a look at the back of the GPS and found 6 sockets in the back and guess it would be difficult to find a straight swap unit

                        Cheers

                        Peter

I'm replacing my 04 Grande sat nav system with a Pioneer Carplay unit. Since i never use the factory Sat Nav anyway. Chasing $500 for the headunit, stacker and GPS player if you're interested. All in good working order. Still currently in the car.
