Notoriously, as they cram more wiring for all the gizmos and luxury/creature comfort devices they have to find ways of reducing weight in other areas. You only have to look at the current range of airliners to see that carbon fibre and plastic has replaced much of the wing composition.
If they have thinned the dash board material, just like they have reduced the thickness of the steel panels and guards, and windscreens then it's no wonder the things are cracking. You only have to lean against the panels of the current Hilux and they dent without any effort at all.
