Ask him more about the problem when you see him next. How many others have been through? Why is this happening? What info have they received from Toyota about it?

Are you sure it's on this weekend, horsepeople? Or do they run them simultaneously?... the 4x4, Off-road and Outdoors Expo (combined with the Tinnie and Tackle Show) is on in Brisbane at the RNA Showgrounds this weekend (19-21/3).

Seems like time to start drafting a revealing little flyer to slip under the wipers of the many many hundreds of 120 Prados sure to be scattered throughout the car parks and streets surrounding the showgrounds.

Yes Mr Yasuda we do expect our dashboards to last long than 5 years. If this is your 'highest quality', it's just not good enough. We don't want your sympathy. I want my well-cared-for Toyota to be worth top dollar come trade-in time. Why the hell should we settle for less because of your inferior build quality? My 25-year-old Peugeot 505 had a dashboard in better condition.

I'm an owner of a 09 120 series and even though my dashboard hasn't cracker (yet? and hopefully it doesn't) i wanted to congratulate you guys on taking on this fight. Believe me I'd be doing exactly the same thing if I was in your shoes. 5 years from a dashboard is simply not good enough Mr Toyota and believe me there will be a slump in sales when the current owners are looking to buy something newer

                Gday to all,
Have an 03 GXL and have cracks on both sides of the dash as well. Have the extended factory warranty but apparently it does not cover "trim". The warranty cost me $1440 and was purchased at Pacific Toyota in Cairns. Very disappointed as i specifically asked if this type of thing would be covered because i have had the same issue with a 94 Camry which was covered. Apparently there is two types of warranty but we are not told this. The first can be purchased only if you have bought the car secondhand from a Toyota dealership. This one covers everything. The second is given to those who purchase secondhand from a non Toyota dealer or private sale. This is selective in what it covers. I was not told this when i was purchasing the warranty and only found out when i went to claim for the Dash. It states on the Toyota website under Factory Apporoved Extended Warranty Insurance, " Replacement or repair of any Toyota components defective in material or workmanship ". Apparently not. Took car on a 400 k round trip ( i now live near Mackay QLD) to dealer in Mackay to be told it was not covered. Contacted Toyota Insurance and was told it was not covered. Took up the fight with their Consumer Advocate and still no luck. Got onto the Financial Omdudsman and received a less than enthusiastic reception. I don't know where to go from here other than contiuously targeting the customers of the local dealership and letting them know the problem. The only drama is that it is a 400 k drive.
Count me in for any class action.
My brother who lives in Rockhampton has an 04 GXL and is in the same predicament. I will try and get him to register with the forum.

                Cheers Dave

Definitely... get you your brother on here and be counted. I also have an expensive 'used' extended warranty (purchased from a Toyota dealer) and doesn't cover body or trim either, only mechanical.

I think the suggestion of a flyer is a great idea. It should be well drafted, pointing out the issues people have, and can except to have, as well as the lack of support from Toyota. It should include Toyota's lack of interest after the warrenty period, or even during the worthless "extended" warrenty offered by their dealers. It should be suggested that owners contact the relevent parties to voice their concerns. This would be one way of getting the word out that people are not happy with Toyota's responce to this issue!

On another note ... my brother -in-law recently took his two year old Aurion in for a warrenty issue with the auto-trans .. no problem, will be fixed, but the centre consol which has had it's mounting bolts pull through the plastic base ... not covered? Dealer ( central coast NSW ) claims it's normal wear & tear!%$#&
Responcibilty seems to be a real problem with Toyota at the moment.

hi all interesting different points of view. completely unrelated but i was in a 08 nissan patrol last week (company car) and the entire dash has bubbled up
cant say ive seen anything like that before also considering the age of the car, i asked the driver what he had done and he said he has seen at least two
                        others the same

Hi all, you can count me in, i have 03 GXL, just ticked over 90,000km and have recently moved up to karratha for work and got in my prado the other day, 10-15cm crack above instrument cluster on the lip.

Just used loctite 406 to try and hold it together...

I had a 92 sr5 hilux before the prado and it now seems it had a better build quality then the prado.

Also the steering wheel has become that worn over the last few months, it looks like it's out of an old VB commodore, not out of a $60k 4wd.

I was thinking of getting another toyota after this one, but not so sure anymore.

Also just FYI i have just returned from the local toyota dealership here in Karratha, i went down there to ask about using a diagnostic computer and thought while i was in there, i asked if they have had any problems with dashes cracking in the 120series prado, as every second car up here is a 120 series prado, and what a surprise, "have never had that problem ever", then i mentioned this forum and said it seems to be common between 03' to 05' and not just in Australia, then he said "well i have had one since I've been working here and it was due too the owner using a chemical eg. armoral ". I mentioned that mine has cracked in the last week after being here for just over a month and he said" it must be due to climate change".

As far as i can tell they have either been told by toyota to deny deny or they have no idea what is going on, or probably a combination of both.
