    I'm really disappointed after reading this thread.
    I had my heart set on buying an 04/05 Grande next week, but now am starting to have second thoughts :? .
    I have never owned a Toyota, only Holden's that never had any problems at all!

      Careful with your impressions after reading this thread. What you've got here is everybody who has the problem or has seen it making a comment. Don't, by any stretch, be under the impression that this is a problem that all Prado's are going to suffer from. Yes there are a number of people reporting the problem. I've seen it myself. It's a problem that is very real and needs to be watched for. However Go and look in any second hand yard. How many have the problem? All? I highly doubt it. In fact, I've only seen one Prado with this problem. It's all too easy to get the impression the problems are rampant when reading threads like this, while in reality there are many, many more Prado's out there that do not have this problem.

      Yes you need to be aware of the issue. But if you've found a Prado that has been looked after and you're happy with it then get into it.

        You must have had some good Holdens, most of ones i had were crap, unlike my prado it was been the best car i have owned, so don't be turned off, all cars have issues of some sort!!!

          Yea I guess I just got lucky with the Holdens. I'm still keen as on the Prado just got a little spooked from this thread.
          I'd be devastated if after 6mths of buying it the dash looked like some in this thread.

            im new to this site but you can count me as well. i just bought my old mans 03 grande and it has the standard crack above the instruments its been garaged , never off road , 145000 k's .luckily it was so cheap it doesnt worry me yet, also the fact that i haven't even picked it up yet :shock: im finally back in a toyota but im a bit shocked at toyota's quality control and there response to customers. pick up your act toyota the halo is starting to slip and every one else is picking up their act .
            03 grande v6 , with added stuff that makes it go places . RTFM people !

              Just read a post on Exploroz, seems Nissan have a problem with dashboards bubbling but they have recently agreed to fix the problem under warranty - up to six years old and unlimited kilometres. Not sure it that news will be heartening or disheartening to Prado drivers affected by cracked dashboards. :?:

                I have seen many a Prado with the cracked dash and it seem to be all the vehicles in the 2003 to 2005 year model I have a 2004 Grande and it’s got no cracks but a mate of mine bought a 2004 with no cracks and now in 6 months his dash has started to crack his dash is the dark grey mine is the beige so perhaps it’s the heating up of the dark color.

                      Cracking does not discriminate - mines beige and it is definitely as someone else pointed out in the thread started on a really hot day and after the a/c is turned on. It literally cracked before the missus' eyes.

                        The worst cracking I have ever seen was on a beige dash. They were everywhere.

                              A freind at work has a 2004 Prado GXL. We had a good look over the dash last week. She has it covered with a mat the same as mine.
                              No eveidence of any cracking at all. It looks as good as new. (dash is grey)
                              The cracking issue does not seem to effect all vehicles of early to mid decade manufacture. I would not be surprised if the issue is
                              actually rare but seems to be widespread because of the concentraion of complaints through the web.
                              I might be wrong though. :wink:
                              2008 Diesel Prado with extra stuff added. I drive it on the road and other places too.

                                Mine has a big crack right across the top of the speedo cluster. And a small crack starting at the top of the center console

                                Nothing can be done to cover it up or fix it???

                                Brown dash on 2003 model GXL.
