[quote="johnnie"]with a guaranteed of no further crack ever again.

This would indicate to me that they know about the fault, have produced a dash from a material which does not suffer from the same problem, and rather than replace it under warranty as goodwill, they are trying to sting you for $400. hat said, they quoted me $2400 in Oz, so if you can't get them to do it under warranty, I'd jump at it, but ask them for the guarantee about never cracking again in writing, I bet they change their tune. Good luck with it.

Good news (hopefully)!!! After my second "out of warranty claim" I got a phone call from my local dealership to say my claim to have my cracked dash replaced had been approved. The part is on order so fingers crossed it all ahead with no dramas.

Just noticed a hairline crack along the dashboard above the instrument cluster. Prado is a Dec 04 GXL. Never used any form of polish or chemicals on the dash. Let's see what the local dealer has to say................no prizes for guessing!

Went down to Motorama, Salisbury today and the receptionist said she knew nothing about the issue and had never heard of the problem. I was just about to launch into a full blown spray when another guy came over and said that Toyota were reviewing these on a case by case basis. They will take photo's, etc. next week when it goes in for the sovereign bullbar recall. Watch this space.........and fingers crossed!

Interestingly I spoke to a vinyl repair guy this morning and his words were "Not another one"! They seem to be repairing heaps of them but he did say that there was no guarantee that the crack wouldn't come back after repair, or that it would be an invisible repair. Happy to share contact details of these guys, if anybody wants them please PM me.

I spoke to a Toyota dealership a while ago now who, as usual, said "Hmmm... never seen or heard of a Prado dash cracking before". Have since spoken to staff at that same dealership who have stated... you guessed it... "Oh, my dash is cracked the same as yours, only worse"... and I'm aware of others having cracking through to 2006 models so far". Gross degree of ignorance or a deliberately orchestrated response (from management) to the issue... you be the judge

I suspect 'case by case' probably = 'individual degree of impending legal action'. To be fair, I believe for many/most of the Toyota 'representatives' who are across the truth, it's not personal, it's just dictated business process... albeit potentially unethical. That said, I'm aware of cases where lawyers have had substantial impact in this matter! This has to be directed at TMCA and I suspect dealerships are largely unwilling partners who ultimately have to obey/hide behind their Führer.

If you're genuinely prepared to flex your muscles and never accept no for an answer then I believe you will prevail to a large degree. An when we start to accumulate precedents it only fairs better for those to follow.

I dropped into OldMac Toyota at Springwood to book ny 150 in for it's first service and the service guy there who said that he was the resident expert on Landcruisers was very aware of the issue with the dashes in the 120 but only offered me the price to replace and nothing more.

After receiving a call from my local Toyota dealership saying that my warranty claim had been successful, I received another call today telling me they would only pay for $400 of the cost of the replacement, and that I would have to pay the remaining $900+++ of the costs. Suffice to say I am not happy, especially after being initially being told that was going to be replaced. After telling the dealership that this was not acceptable, I was told to call Toyota and discuss it with them.

So I called Toyota, and they said the dealership is supposed to lodge an appeal on my behalf.... and around and around we go! I guess at least they are beginning to acknowledge some form of liability.

                      Hey
I had the same problem with my 2003 Prado GXL only I had about 25+ cracks and they where all in the lower part of the Dash so outside the sun.
Went to see Toyota a few times then they took some pictures and offerd to replace the whole Dash for around $ 400.- Good Luck
                      Cheers Tom

I have just found this forum and I would like to express how disappointed I have been with my 2003 Prado!
Firstly the Alloy Wheels "rusted" in the first year I bought it,
then the dash starts to crack in 2008. I've taken photos of my dashboard. The cracking is all around the airbags and all along behind the steering wheel etc and its getting worse. You certainly dont expect an inferior car for $50,000.00
I've only done 10,000km per year and its been looked after well. Can anyone let me know when they have a recall to fix these problems. NOT HAPPY TOYOTA!!! :x  :?  :!:

I just called the spare parts guy in Lismore City Toyota and I told him my dash was cracking. He replied "in 35 years of working he has never heard of it before". Is there some way we can let these toyota guys know in all dealerships that its a valid problem and so they dont get angry with us. What a disgrace for Toyota!

I bought a 2003 prado grande just over a year ago. Read about the cracked dash problems and invested in a dash mat to avoid problems. I have just noticed a massive 36cm hairline crack right across the console arch (drivers side). I seemed to happen overnight for no good reason. WTF
The car is always garaged at home and at work. Car has only 104,000kms.

Took the car to Toyota today and the guy there got copies of my rego and service records, took photos. He reckons he has never seen it before but has heard of there being a problem. Will let you all know what Toyota come up with. I don't expect much.

Received notification from my toyota dealership that my out of warranty claim has been successful - they have offered to pay 1/2 of the cost of the part ($400). I will then have to pay the other 1/2 ($400) plus $550 for fitting. I am not really satisfied with this, but it may be is good as it gets. What is the opinion out there?
