Cracked dashboard

Yep!! my dash did not have a crack in it until last year. Now it looks like a spider’s web. Just going to live with it for now. Toyota also told me to get lost, car out of warrenty. Has anyone found filler or something to use on the cracks?

Permatex makes a dashboard repair kit but I have reservations about how well it would work with the Toyota dash issue. The cracks are generally fine hairline type and very long. Might end up making a bigger mess. I've just learnt to live with it.

Add me to the list, mine is a 2007 and the fine crack runs along the full width of the top of the instrument cover, Toyotas are turning into a piece of crap, so this will be my last one

Hi guys, we have used Newlife Repairs to fix cracks in 120 Prados.

They do a great job and around $200 for whole dash.

Not sure about the longevity of repairs but the finish is excellent.

BTW I have no affiliation with them, just giving credit where credit is due.

Reckon he'd fix this................[IMG][/IMG]or this [IMG][/IMG]or this, [IMG][/IMG] This is some of the extreme cases but if he can fix this for $200 then anyone living up your way is well worth their while to have it repaired by the company your advertising then paying $2000 for a replacement dash. This isn't a smart arse answer but hopefully will help some one out. Im not sure how bad the dash's are your referring to compared to these pics but again if it helps some one out then that's great.........Cheers Steve

wonder if there is a correlation with more cracks at this time of the year as the cool weather causes the dash to contract.

Wow Steve, that's some crazy cracking you've got going on there!

I have never seen one that bad and the ones we have had repaired are nothing like this.

Having said that, they will still probably give it a crack (excuse he pun )

The last one we had done did have a few cracks from one side to the other.

Dont know if I would like my dash repaired with 'filler'. If the air bag is deployed, not only does the passenger get sprayed with bits of dash but also bits of filler. Potential to be quite nasty.

Hi there Dan, not mine mate but is some one from PP. I couldn't stand looking at that every day if it was mine. I would have to have it replaced or get rid of it, would piss me off lol. So far mines ok except where I gouged it pulling the radio out, was so pissed off with myself and after all that the radio didn't work but another story lol..... Cheers steve

Man, this is terrible stuff, cant believe that for all of the 'claimed' advances in technology, they remain hopeless at developing plastics that resist UV and cracking!!!! Not sure what the heck the so called "Research Departments" with their 100'ss of staff do at these major car companies? I vote for less gizmos and better reliability.

I'm assuming (unless someone has a better thought) it had something to do with the early plastic development and changes for the special in dash airbags?

For these you need a dash that cracks on command

Has anyone tried to re-cover their dash with vinyl or other material? My only concern that this would probably impede the deployment of the passenger's airbag.

Bazprado, I'm currently hunting down a spare 120 dash which I going to recover in lesther. I'm going to sew a perforation around where the airbag flap is so that in the event of deployment it will rip the leather and deploy as it should..

You'd think with all these cracked dash's getting replaced there would be plenty available but I can't find one!

I'd assume all of the replaced cracked dashes were done by Toyo dealerships, they'd all get scrapped/landfilled?? I guess it's a pretty intense job and only done if you have another dash (done in-house)!! A few peeps try and fix the existing non replaced dash but unsure of the finish. As your an auto trimmer you stand in separate category to most of us mortals!!
