I read that as long as an issue was was identified within the warranty period, that issue must be rectified by the manufacturer. If the same issue occurs once the warranty has lapsed then the manufacturer must still resolve the issue. Now, obviously if you kill your greabox and get it repaired under warranty then do it a second time after the warranty has lapsed, you don't have a leg to stand on. This only applies where it is apparent the original fault was not rectified properly. Just something to think about and check if this applies to you with a call to fair trading or the equivalent in your state.
