Anyways, has anyone actualy replaced the dash assembly themselves ? I am considering going out and ordering a brand new dash from Toyota and fitting it myself.
Do you really want to hand over your hard earned to Toyota after being fobbed off like that?

I believe to replace it the whole dash has to come out. But first the centre console and the seats...

Don't think so. I purposely did not buy a Toyota when buying a second car for my partner.

I believe it's a big job? All the SRS airbags have to come out too and be reset. FWIW my 03 was finally replaced (did take a long time), not original owner.

          • ^Same avenue as everyone else I' m afraid...the dealers. The only thing I can say the car had exceptional low kilometres and impeccable service history. Done right after I bought it. Was a few yrs ago now. IMHO it very possibly would not get passed now as I/or my local mech do servicing now. You may have buckleys as you come across as a competent mechanic (DIY)?

Like #758 maybe give the CTTT a try, seems to be a case by case basis! Too many variables beyond my control.

I was cool with it. Car is 10 years old after all. Spent all of its life in NT and it has red bulldust all through it. Even if they part paid for it, the labour would have to be paid by me, so in the end much of muchness, at least I know the job will be done right.

Dash ordered......Gives me a chance to clean all the vents, heater core/evap core and replace all foam seals which will no doubt be perished by now. Upgrade the head unit at the same time with Toyota USB/MP3....

As for Toyota I had Pajero's before, and forever battling the valve stem seals and also had both a 3 L TD Jackaroo and 3L TD GUIII, which both had their own and much more expensive problems, so cracked dash is a minor nuisance....

Don't see why the SRS system would have to be reset ? I have changed numerous SRS components in the past and as long as the battery is disconnected and anti static precautions were taken, never had any issues ?

                • No need for seats to be removed and only centre part of dash don't have to remove the whole console part... Cheers Steve

                  • Just Ive just learnt to live with it and embrace it... Think of it as character...

Anyway I don't think there is really any point replacing it, if it happened before it will happen again all in good time.

                    • I got my prado for cheaper because of the dash cracks so they are somewhat of a positive to me- at least thats what I keep telling myself!

                      • Well I have now joined this illusive thread.
Jumped in yesterday and noticed from right side vent across to middle right vent via instrument cluster.
Will have to reread thread and contemplate options..

                        • Similar response here, they literally laughed at me when I mentioned warranty! The bliss of a single Toyota dealer

                          • if this thread is still taking people to add to the long list of people with cracks, then add me to it. I've recently found a little 2 inch crack in my 2006 GXL between the right side of the instrument cluster and the air vent. Car has about 107,000 kms on it i think. I've also noticed my dash is not lined up with other parts like the plastics around the audio unit.

im getting a little paranoid of these problems on these 120s :worry:

                              • I also have this problem on my 06 Grande, cracks in long lines across it. Also I've been (carefully)taking the stereo out to test a few things and the rubber surrounding the fascia has just easily crumbled away on the edges. I have left this car ungaraged all this time so the sun may well have affected it but I have a Holden that's been kept in the same situation and there are no problems with the much tougher rubber on that.
