I kept my 90 for 10 years. Not so sure about the 120, although 10 years was the original plan.

Ours is 11 years old now with 300k on the clock.
Its had many mods and many repairs, its still great to drive and very comfortable but it just doesn't tow good.
A 1kz with an auto trans behind it isn't really a tow beast.
We are moving UP in the world of power and off road ability, but were going into the dark ages in regards to creature comforts.

        Hi All,

My 120 is now 6 years old, done 141,000kms and is going great.
All major mod cons + extra.

At this stage I plan to keep it until Toyota release the 180 Prado.
After that, it depends on the specs of the 180 model.

If I like what it has, then it may get replaced by the 180. If not, then maybe a 2nd hand 200 series.

My next vehicle needs to have 3,000kgs Tow capacity, Twin Fuel Tanks, Ability to engage Low Range, without locking the Diffs.
        (Currently not on my 120)

I need 3T tow to pull my Proposed Lotus 19'6"' Freelander Caravan.

            Hi All,

If they can have a 150 Shortie with 3,000kgs Tow Capacity, then they can do it on the wagon.
It won't hurt the 200 series sales, but it will create sales from those who would have bought a twin cab (from another Manufacturer), to get the necessary tow capacity.

The Troopy? How bad is it compared to the Prado really? If Toyota updated the 76 it would be a good option I think.

I like your thinking, remains to be seen if Mr Toyota is worried about any potential sales losses...

Even the Challenger is rated to 3000kg's. Does that mean it's pushing the boundaries and Toyota are keeping a 'safety margin' at 2500kg's?

I'm going to keep my Prado the same length. I don't want it to be any longer & defiantly no shorter.

                      Hi All,

I am the OP and thanks everyone for your thoughts, I thought I would let you know I have decided to keep my Prado for a few more years. I believe she has got a few more miles left in her yet.

I've been watching this thread and (along with the tax man) it has convinced me to keep my (wife's) 120 for a while yet.
                        Cheers, Brad

We have a 2009 120 and when I bought it 2 years ago it was harder to find than a 150 in same year. People just wanted 2009 120 D4Ds. Last week the missus said to me if I want a 150 I can get one so I had a look and to be honest I was underwhelmed for my requirements. Didn't like the seats in the floor, dash/console is ugliest thing I have seen and no better power than I already have. I still was keen until we went beach camping and driving inland tracks I got a few scratches and kids dragged sand inside everywhere and I thought I am ok with that but if it was my new 60k Prado I would have been upset.
I also think I will miss the 150 altogether and wait till 180 as it has to be better at towing and newer more powerful engine.

You really need to sit down and ask yourself what do you use the vehicle for.

I've recently gone through this thought process and decided to hang on to my 2006 GX for a while longer yet as it's a bloody great bus and the financial outlay required to replace it with anything worthy would be too great. In fact I've decided to give it a birthday after 192,000 including about a hundred racked up pretty quick in the Pilbara.
New Alpine Bluetooth stereo to add a bit of high-tech gadgetry, 3in stainless exhaust, a few dents and stone chips repaired and full buff, Toyota bullbar & ARB roof rack re-powder coated and soon to come: 2in lift, DP Chip, full detail, new spotties and light bar and drawer system.
I've always enjoyed seeing earlier model fourbee's that someone's taken a bit of pride in, like seeing an 80 Series these days that is obviously still giving its owner a lot of pleasure.

Have a 06 120 and will be keeping it for a while yet as I have done quite a few mods and it does everything I need
No way I would buy a new 150 series as they still have basically the same diesel engine that they have been making for the last 20 years
They would have to put a new diesel power plant in a new model before I upgraded
Can't see any reason they can't put their v8 diesel into it or at least produce a v6 diesel....
