  • SERVICE COSTS

    Hey everyone,

In regards to a 120 series Petrol can you tell me the approximate service costs (ie 1000, 5000k, 10,000k etc) from new; ie what does it cost for the first service and then after that. I have heard horror stories about what the dealerships charge for their services.

    Many thanks,

    Darren

My first, and only service at Toyota, besides the free one, cost $147, parts and oil only (5000 km). Be careful, my invoice included 10 litre of engine oil, but the 3.0 TD only holds 7 litres of oil.

Since then, I have been getting it serviced at Pit Stop Oil Change on Pascoe Vale Rd, Strathmore. The place is VACC approved and takes Fleet card.

To date, the most expensive log book service has cost me around $130 (40,000 km service). No appointment required, just roll up and the service is completed in under an hour.

At the last service, for the $100 it cost me, they checked both Diffs, the Gearbox & Transfer case oils, ran around with a grease gun, changed the oil and filter, and did the blown globes. They spent over 45 minute replacing the blown globes in the fog light assembly on the ARB bar and only charged me for the globes.

Hey thanks for the replies. This was one of the variables in the budget that I wasn't too sure about.

I just did the same excersize for the 3lt TD 20,000K service.
Toyota was $365, ARB was $295 and the local mechanic that has done all the services so far but the first free one was $190.
Both ARB and The local mechanic worked there prices from the warranty book so everything has been included.
The local is Peter Dutton automotive in Mandurah WA.
I have been very happy so far with his work so thats where its going.
Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

Servicing at non Toyota Service Centres

One of the issues with getting your Prado seerviced at an indpendant mechanic is that from time to time Toyota make changes in the software/firmware to any of a number of the ECU's in the vehicle. The dealer may not be aware of what has been changed, just a new version to upload. If you take you vehicle to an independant, you won't be getting the latest ECU updates.

                Steveo,

Can you provide more details on this one? I never had any ECU stuff
updated through the Yota dealers even thought I want to...
What car do you have, what have you had updated and which dealer?

                  wow .. you got dupped..

i got the 10k done at toyota.. $180

i got the 20k done at Repco Auto Repair - $140

i would trust my local RAR over toyota servicing anyday...

qualified mechanics vs 1st or 2nd year apprentices..

I am a little biased tho.. my father ownes a RAR in brissy, and has told me about some of the staff he has had that were ex-dealership mechanics..

                      Matt,

                      Slight change of topic.

Can your contacts find out if its possible to re-calibrate the speed sensors on the ABS to accommodate larger tyres. Apparently, these speed sensors also supply the signal to the vehicles speedo.

I had my 40,000 done last friday. I am in a lucky position of having an affiliated mechanic who is a mate do it and he charged me cost of parts only..........which still came to $300.

Get this.... my 15,000km service was just done at Brian Hilton Toyota workshop in Woy Woy, which is pretty much just an oil change from my understanding, after having the car ('06 T/D) for 1hr 45 min, I was charged $224.55 incl. GST!!! I am far from happy as I can do an oil change in 10 minutes and spend $80 for oil + filter. I will be looking elsewhere from now on to get the bloody warranty handbook services done.

Hey Stitch whats with the 8 bucks to check your tyres, unless you had a special request to check your tyres it should just be part of the usual service. Next they will have an extra charge for air in the tyres.
I work in a dealership (not Toyota) and these little things all add up to make your bill look believeable. Some might have noticed emissions on your service bill totaling about $36 dollars, a waste of money. Theres nothing missing in good brand name oil you don't need engine flush and conditioner if you did the oil companys would have added it in the first place they have a name to uphold.
Sorry got carried away, just remember check your bill before paying
                              cheers Phil.
