Are the Diesel oil filters really over $45?
I pay $21 for genuine Toyota from my dealer for my petrol. Wow. Glad I got a petrol, it's just keeps getting cheaper! :-)

Hey... I did some phoning around today and was advised that I could perform intermediate (5000km) services myself... being an oil and filter change. Toyota advised me to use only a genuine ($40) oil filter and advised they use Castrol RX Super for their oiland it wont affect the warranty. Another interesting point was that I should tell the service blokes that I only want the oil and filter changed, not all the other bull$hit inspections (tyres, brakes, fluids etc.) and it would have cost about $110. Anyway I will be doing my own 5000km services from now on.

John that sort of differance in price is really amazing seeing they are doing the exact same service. You should ask the dealer with 750 what they are doing that the others aren't.
There's nothing wrong with going to a good back yarder that knows what he's doing and does't cost you a morgage. I know of a very good mechnic down the road who is never out of work and is a member of local 4wd club. Armadale 4wd service centre, talk to Mick very good name for himself. (for anyone who is in Perth)

hi there, anyone knows what is the service checklist like for 80,000 to
100,000km?
mine just got serviced at 70,000 and it costs a bomb. oil, filters, air filter, beltings, etc etc...
the dealer said that for 80,000 just be prepared. timing belt and the whole lot..its the worse service of all..is this true?
anyone has the proper toyota checklist for 80,000 i.e. list of parts to replace and what components to service? maybe i'll just get the parts off wholesale (a whole lot cheaper!!!) and ask the dealer to install it.
Thanks people.

The service book should tell you what parts they need to inspect or replace.GXL D4D AUTO Option pack more to follow & Camprite TL8s

Yeah they were going to do their normal service and started to mention prices and what they could/should/would do until I told them I was on a novated lease. The dealer simply said Oh ok and just did what he was supposed to do. The tyres got rotated and everything was done. Dont know at what price difference it was though.07 Prado GXL, D4D manual, silver and a fridge with constantly changing beer levels.

Guys,
Just had the 200,000 km service carried out on my diesel.
It cost $570 for a log book service at Valvoline Express Care in Hoppers Crossing. The dearest service I've paid for to date.

capped services
Has anyone been using the $180 capped service offer of Toyota? I'm assuming this is a new thing as I haven't heard of it before and would have used it on my Hilux. Checked back through the invoices and $220-$240 seemed to be the average service cost. They convinced me to go with the 10,000 services on the latest one. Because I had no big trips or serious off-roading on this vehicle it didn't matter and I didn't notice a big difference. I may go back to doing my oil changes at 5000 on the Prado when it arrives and just get Toyota to do the $180 jobs on the main (10,000) services. It reads as if it is a blanket offer on all new Toyota's. Reading Maverick's 200,000 service cost became yet another reason why I update my vehicles early.cjd

Just looked at the Toyo web site - and for the Prado's - its only relevent for Apr-08 compliance plates and up to 6 services over a 3yr period. Unfortunately mine is a Feb-08 plate so i miss out.
I just booked mine into a dealer for its first "FREE" - service (it has done 3500kms in 6 weeks) and was told after mentioning, handbrake almost not working that it would COST me. So much for "free" first service. Im sure if any nut/bolt needed tightening (it has had some fun in the mud since new!) - would be probably $4.50 excl GST ea.
I politely ( ) told them to please re-consider and now they will do it gratis.Easter-08 White GXL D4D Auto - delivered in near record time (5d) from placement of order. Has turned into a "Bermuda" or "Swiss fund" where $ get lost or converted into mods/accessories.
