Just found out mine will be May 08 compliance and offer is for vehicles from April as mjforder said. Could be a couple of bucks saved there.

I bought the beast from Northpoint Toyota - Prospect Rd. They confirmed the $180 special is NOT applicable for my car (hey - you can't win them all).

Given its the 1st inspection (acka: free service) - i'll judge by their ability whether to go there again for the 1st REAL (10,000km) service. I do believe in loyalty - but only when it makes sense (ie: loyalty goes both ways).

now that the heavens are opening up in Adelaide - probably about time to do some local mud wrestling. Need something to wash away all that dust up/inside arches, door gaskets, sump plugs etc. might be time to open a new topic (to the horror of PP moderators no doubt)...on the best spots for newbies, mids and experts in each region - complete with pics, maps of how to get there, attractions (pubs etc) etc.

        cheers

        Mike

        UPDATE - 19th May after 1st service/inspection

Guys - heads-up on feedback from inspection. Dropped car off approx 8am and it was ready around 9am. I had the handbrake tightened and mentioned about getting some sump plug washers. Well whatda know?! - i got 2 free gaskets and they blackened my tyres all whilst enjoying a couple of FREE espresso coffees. All-in-all - great customer service by the dealership.

The service sheet mentioned "next service due 5,000kms" - yep for oil change. Dunno about that - but definitely thumbs-up for the 10k service as now having a couple of gaskets, i can now do the oil change meeself.

Easter-08 White GXL D4D Auto - delivered in near record time (5d) from placement of order. Has turned into a "Bermuda" or "Swiss fund" where $ get lost or converted into mods/accessories.

Sounds like a great idea, have looked on this and other forums for good local tracks within an hour or so of town, would love to find some spots for fun.

Looks like I'm getting a big time ripping from what you guys report! Interesting too that the Toyota workshop has strongly suggested to me that having the Prado serviced elsewhere could affect future warranty claims. On paper you can have your Prado serviced where you like as long as the workshop is approved. Reality seems a different matter. Has anyone also had a similar experience?

Yep looks similar to my cost when I picked up my Prado.

I said what did you do for that......so I let him finish talking and then I replied " so at the end of the day you replaced my oil and oil filter and you checked my fliud levels is that right?"He replied YES. Well I wasn't happy and more so when I went outside and poped the bonnet and saw the power steering level still low so I went right back and they got the mechanic to fill it up and that was the last they saw of me and I have been doing my own services ever since. It still had 2years left on the warranty but I didn't care.I enjoy working on it and don't have to be ripped off from these guys unless I have a problem I cannot solve. Its out out of warranty now anyway and I have just purchased a workshop manual so hopefully I won't need to ever go back. At the end of the day you either do it yourself or let someone else to do it ,I chose to do it myself and atleast I know what gets done.

Yeah Zapper I think you might be the smart one.

I used to do all my servicing for my old Hilux and it never missed a beat. I'm sorely tempted to do what you're doing.

I suppose if you really look at it, what I'm now doing is making payments towards a future warranty claim. You think something has been paid for by Mr Toyota when you have a failure at 40,000 k's but in all reality YOU have paid for it with your previous daylight robbery service costs.

$300 to change the oil and tweak a few drive belts. I really don't think so.....I marked the old oil filter just to make sure they really did change it as I read something concerning this in another thread.

The only thing might be the eventual resale value. If someone can see a documented and fully filled out service book along with all service receipts, they might be swayed into a better price. Still it might pay to look elsewhere if Toyo can't do better than that.

No that's just labour. At what, $70.00 per hour, that is 2.8 hours to change the oil and check a few things while the oil was draining and it was probably an apprentice.

That's the thing with new cars you feel sort of obliged to take them to the dealer in case you make a future warranty claim. We have a VX commodore we bought new and in addition to the manufacturer 3 year/75000km warranty the dealer offered an additional 3 years if they performed ALL services. Got charged like nothing else and all I got in my extended warranty was a suspension bush. It was always that "just in case" that I took it back even though I knew I was being robbed. All warranties have finished now so I take it to NRMA service centre. I hope to be rid of it by the end of the year for a new Prado but then it all starts again

Just the labour was $198.00!! I was slugged $75.00 for the oil which I assume is the "Diesel X*" (as it appears on the itemized bill) and $20.00 for the filter...

UUMM, OK then! Each to there own I guess. I do agree to the comment that an un-stamped service book is a bit of a worry but not too fussed who stamped it, as long as it's a workshop stamp.

Actually MDS69, all jokes aside thats a very good point. I suppose just being labeled "workshop supplies" I've given them the benefit of the doubt. But I've got no way of knowing if the charge is valid or not. I suppose it's going towards grease used from the grease gun or the odd fill up with brake fluid. Likewise, I wonder if it would be possible to find out what a reasonable "Environmental Levy" should be. At the moment I'm just asked to accept that both those charges are reasonable. Hmmmmm I wonder if Employment and Consumer Protection could help there........ Actually, to take that further.. I wonder if you could build an argument that $70.00 per hour is excessive for automotive mechanics. As I'm sure MDS69 is right with the apprentice theory, especially at the moment with labor shortages. I really would like to know if I'm paying $70.00 per hour for a dimwit to work on my vehicle.

I guess in the end you vote with your wallet by going elsewhere.

EDIT: Actually Matt you also got me thinking. My service book has simply been written in I guess by a mechanic or someone. But anyone could do that, like I could just tear out the page and write on the stub myself. I think I might go and ask them for a proper stamp on the stubs. That will at least appear genuine to someone interested in the service history in future.

                                self services

That just reminded me. On the Hilux's before this I would put my own services on the tickets in the service book and sign them and I certainly ain't a mechanic e.g. change oil and filter, fuel filter etc. This for 5000km services, but that was what was required then. Didn't do it on this one as common rail and fuel under pressure put the wind up me that I would do more harm than good. The bastards sucked me back in eh! My logic was that I could show the vehicle was serviced and maintained. I didn't have any warranty issues to test them but I still got a great trade off the same dealer later. However I did miss out on the virgins and dolphins, or was it virgin dolphins.
