Just wondering for all the people out there how long they really get out of a windscreen. I know that dirt tracks and the likes should raise the chance of one going but mine is still like new cept dirtier and seems to reflect the stones pretty good.

Re: windscreen lifespan
Well if you are like me and drive the Stuart and Barrier HWYs regularly then I am lucky to get a year out of a screen.Originally posted by pluckerJust wondering for all the people out there how long they really get out of a windscreen. In my last 3 cars I went through 12 of them and I changed cars every 3 years.
My Prado windscreen will be due for replacement by the time I get down south again, I have just had a patch job done on it at the moment. But the clowns up here cannot put a windscreen in to save their lives so I get mine done down in Newcastle when I am there.Roll on the 2010 Pradopoint GTG

Changed my windscreen due to a number of small stone chips and a lot of 'sandblasting' - could not see out of it when it was raining and with oncomong cars with their lights on.
The next day received a large stone chip
........the replacement screen did not seem as strong as the original.
Now changing the screen due to 3 large stone chips...I am glad I have the windscreen option on my insurance.Sold the Prado. Now FJ Cruiser

Depends really. If the cars had any structural damage at all you might find that the windscreens will always start to crack after a little while. Mostly because of the stresses an out of whack body will put on them. I've seen cases where a new windscreen will only last a few months before a small crack would begin appearing from the bottom and eventually go all the way to the top (wasn't a Prado though). Course... drive up a street with a brick wielding Fragwit at the ready and it won't matter how out of whack the car body might be.....# 2007 D4D GX # Full Privacy Tint # Flinders Red # 2 x HID LightForce 240 Blitz # ARB Winch Bar # Alloy Rims # Hilux Washer Jets # Stebel Nautilus Compact Truck Horn # ARB Alloy Roof Rack # ARB Dual Battery System # Charcoal Rough Country Canvas Seat Covers # Suspension:Autocraft Bilstein Shocks/Struts & Ridepro Coils # L.E.D Side Marker Lights # ARB Onboard Air # Pirelli Scorpion LT ATR 265/70's #--Custom 3"exhaust---

I do a fair bit of hwy driving (45,000 a year) and the windscreen cops a a fair bit of punishment. Another thing that doesn't help are the cold frosty mornings we cop over here in Canberra and the brutally cold nights fishing in the Snowies (Lake Eucumbene).
Thats the reason why I signed up the NRMA's window screen insurance deal; an additional $5 a month and you can claim windscreen replacement without affecting your no-claim bonus.2014 Toyota Prado 150 D4D Auto (facelift); ARB Deluxe Bullbar; OME 2" Lift; Rhino Pioneer Platform Rack; Redarc BCDC 1225 with Optima Yellow Top; BF Goodrich Mud Terrain KM2; Lightforce Genuine Custom 70w HID; GME UHF; Safari Snorkel; Rigid Industry SR-Q2 side lights (yet to be installed); Domin8or winch (yet to be installed)

done plenty of dirt tracks.. i just back right off and get off the road when something is coming that i know will throw rocks up..

Looks like the aerodynamics on the Prado must really save us some money judging by the comments so far. I have driven a cruiser troopy as a work car for at least 15 years of my working life and got the windscreen replaced more often than servicing at 10 000km. Although this would only take a month out west.
I have copped a couple of rocks to the screen on the Prado and they just seem to bounce rather than crack for now.07 Prado GXL, D4D manual, silver and a fridge with constantly changing beer levels.

Windscreens
I have a 2005 prado and it has several chips but one crack about 30 cm long from the top of the screen behind the mirror down about 8 cm then hard right turn towards the drivers side.
Im thinking of replaceing it but have herd some bad stories about wind noise and extra noise into the already very quiet cabin of the car.
Should i go genuine or an after market replacement?
Has anybody had a bad replacement screen?

I had mine replaced last October ... 7 stone chips and a crack three quarters of the way across the bottom of the screen.
The techie did a good job of gluing it all in .... but he did say that for the first 48 hours you need to close the doors gently. Apparently, as the car seals up so well, slamming the last door can put bubbles in the sealant, or worst still - pop the sealant, and then you get wind noise.
Cheers
Chippy
