  • What is this button and light?

I just got the vehicle back from having the key barrel thing replaced (see my other recent thread), and this switch on the centre console (bottom right of the photo) is lit up regardless of wether it's switched forward or back. I can't find any reference to it in my manual. Height control, maybe? But there's nothing else lit up on the dash. Steering seems rather sluggish, but I haven't driven it in three weeks so maybe I'm not used to it.

    Hi there,

Are you talking about the round switch That switch does not look factory fitted, I have used similar switches for various projects and have brought them from the local parts shop. My guess is it was put there as part of some sort of aftermarket accessory installation. It sounds like the switch has broken, they are fairly easy to pop out and replace. I defiantly don't think it is linked to your steering.

Your centre console is different to the Australian version, I have never seen one in that configuration with the transfer case lever next to the gear stick. I am fairly sure ours are all located well in front of the gear stick which is located further back than yours. I have the same year Prado as yours and it look very different. The large oval tray next to the switch is where the hight levelling set of switches would go if you had that feature. The pictures below aren't my car but are the same and shows what I mean.

On a manual, the shifter is quite a distance forward compared to the auto shifter. Here's a pic from carsales

Yep, that's mine, although mine is left hand drive. Well I guess that little round button could be non-OEM, but I still can't figure out what it is supposed to be telling me. Oh well, one more thing to fiddle around with.

Not front parking sensors switch or rear ?? The two switches in front of the gear stick look like seat warmer switches ?? Do you have front or rear sensors fitted into the bumper bar ?? I have seen switches for front sensors but not for rear, well that's in Aussie models anyway.... Cheers Steve

Hmmm. Well, I do have front and rear parking sensors but they haven't worked since about two months after I bought the thing. Maybe because I switched that thing off. I will check it out and report back....
