Firstly thanks to all the great advice I've gotten from this site and thanks to those who replied to my queries.

Went out this arvo and bought an '03 v6 auto GXL. Silver with factory bullbar. Absolutely Sweeeet! Am picking it up on wednesday so it'll be a long 3 days...

Well done mate, i think you will be pleased with your decision.

There is one problem you are likely to find with the auto Prado tho. Something we should have warned you of   Once you take it off-road a bit, it becomes rather addictive. There goes your weekends Enjoy!

        Well done MKH.

The '03 V6 Auto GXL is exactly what I picked up a year ago, today, and 55,000 Km later I'm still in love.

I echo Bear's thoughts .... once you take it off-road its really addictive ..... and your wallet becomes a home for moths and dust balls .... 'cause there's always another accessory that you just have to have.

Enjoy the hell out of it.

        Cheers
        Chippy

Where abouts are you located?? I'm sure there will be a trip nearby soon to start the addiction
          Cheers, Leon

            G'day.
I'm in Melbourne. Quite looking forward to seeing how it goes offroad. My father-in-law has an 04 diesel which I'm quite impressed with.

My current ride was a 2005 Jeep Cherokee CRD which I'd turned into quite a capable little machine. It had the lift, tyres and underbody armour. I took an absolute beating on the trade-in value so I won't have any money for any mods to the Prado for a while but I'm pretty sure it'll out-perform my Jeep even in stock form.

I'm just hoping for a bit better reliability than what I was getting before...

Welcome MKH, were you on the Ausjeep website as i think remember a post from someone last week talking about trading the KJ for a prado.
Thats what i did and my trade also took a beating, i sold it privately in the end.
You won't be dissapointed, i had at least 20 warranty claims in two years with the Jeep, i have had one issue in the first year with the prado, a fog light kept falling out of the bullbar, fixed with a new plastic holder.
Welcome to the the home of the mighty prado, this site is a lot less political as well, you will enjoy.

You will not look back, I love my Prado. Over the years I've driven a lot of different things and other than the XA GT we had, the Prado would have to be my favourite. There are still days I miss the throaty growl of the V8

Hutch: Yep that was me on Ausjeepoffroad. I changed my mind about getting a Prado, then after the Jeep spent 2 days at the workshop where they couldn't find a fault, I changed my mind again. All I can say is "bring on wednesday" when I pick up the Prado!

Shell: You can always shoehorn a Lexus 4.7 v8 into the Prado if you really miss that v8 growl

or I can pick up another classic and rebuild it from the ground up again one day. That would be satisfying
