majama, just explore the cd (right mouse click, then explore), make sure your computer is set up to display hidden files and folders, then open the directory called contents, and then click on index.html. No serial number needed. This is entry level protection, pretty useless really. Unless they have changed it recently, this should work and saves you typing in the serial number. BTW the serial number should be on the inside cover of your CD.

Yep even says that the serial number should be there on the inside cover, big blank area for it as well. Tried getting into the CD via back door. Not sure if i used the hidden folders trick. Couldnt get into the index though. this CD is the latest one part # SC00W3EB so dont know if its the same. Toyota have it at the moment and the parts woman will try to get the serial this week. They gave me one but it didnt work. Cheers.

Toyota has made the FJ Cruiser Service manual available for the FJ Cruiser to club web-sites and forums.

Since most of the components are the same this might help some of you.

There is a link on our club forum. Feel free to download it for anything you might need.

That's a Max Ellery manual and as an owner of it and several "Genuine" workshop manuals I would go the factory manual everytime. The Max Ellery and even Gregorys type manuals are really very basic manuals. The Max is especially poor in quality and can be quite scattered in the way they present information. The print quality is also poor and some of the photos are next to useless.

Do yourself a favour and buy the factory Toyota CD... 10x more information and well presented in an easy to use and understand format.

To Chesty, you were right about accessing the disk via the index.html file. I had tried to do this but was using firefox as a web browser so didnt work when supplied with correct number either. Used Internet Explorer and all is good. Funny the service dept must had had a ball tightening as they said to keep it quiet that i had got the cd there as they werent supposed to sell it. Seems this is only a verbal from Toyota technical though as there was nothing they could find in Writing?

I've heard this is a bluff/myth by service dept. Apparently Toyota are legally obliged to supply technical/service information for products sold in Australia.

If its a bluff it would appear to be comming from Toyota Technical (head office i believe) a sthe local service dept. had no issue what soever with selling it to me until they were told from higher up. I still have the Cd and would agree with mick about the bluff, probably to keep the masses ignorant and therefore more likely to use toyota service dept. and parts. Not a good way to do business i would have thought.

MickL - you are correct, they are obliged to provide technical information, however the law does not state how much they should charge for it. The publically available Workshop manual comes in hardcopy, not CD and they charge around $500 for it. That is the one they want to sell you.

Think the answer depends on which dealer you go and see.

Went to see 2 dealers on weekend to get service manual. 1st said sorry can't supply to anyone who isn't toyota dealer. 2nd one said no dramas $147 and will be in by the end of the week and would i like to borrow their spare copy in the meantime. Guess i know who i will deal with from now on

G'Day All

FYI I ordered the workshop manual on CD from CMI Toyota here in Adelaide & it cost $73.15.

They have to order it in as apparently the CD manual changed from August 2008.

I have 08/08 build & running the VIN they said I needed the new manual which they didn't have in stock. Supposed to take 2-3 weeks to lob.
