  • Issue with Install of Aftermarket CD Player

    Hi,

I have recently purchased a 2004 GXL Prado, I decided to install new stereo to enable ipod to be played when off-roading (nothing worse than skipping CD's and no radio reception).

I have had a problem with the install, I decided to hard wire in lieu of after market wiring harness (first mistake).

After removing the original stereo, I used test globe to find the 12V constant and ignition wires, there does not appear to be any power on any of the wires. I went straight to the fuse box in engine bay, there are 2 radio fuses highlighted as radio, both are not blown. Cannot see any fuses marked as radio in fuse in lower dash on drivers side of cabin. The Wiring harness connector on left below stereo is connected.

Are there any other fuses connected to this circuit that could cause the above???

Is there any other issues with prado's which could cause this, I have successfully installed dozens of stereos to other cars over the years but this has nearly gotten the better of me.

Help is appreciated, next step auto-electrician.

    thanks Josh.

Connect direct to the battery, and add in your own fuses inline. Only thing is you will have to turn off/on your stereo manually and not via the ignition switch.

If the old radio was working then you have power there. Take a look at the bottom half of this image. The colours may be correct or incorrect but the pin location is 100% correct in ALL Toyotas.

I would be checking your earth you are using for the test light.

Secondly is accessories on when checking for your accessory power???

          I agree

It would be highly doubtful to blow both fuses.

Just get a stereo harness adapter from Supercheap to the plugs on the new unit.

I've done this multiple times for family and friends with no issues. What make/model unit did you buy?
