  • Major Service Advice

Hi Gents just wanted some advice on giving my 120 a 120,000 Klm service.

I am using Delo 400 from advice I got here in the truck for the last 30,000 and happy with it so thought maybe I could get some good advice on the rest.

Front and Rear Diff - ??? (So far from here I se Castrol LS90 is the go)
Coolant - ???? Genuine or aftermarket? If aftermarket then what?
Auto - ??? Does anyone do it and if so what oil?
    Transfer Case - ??? Oil?
Power Steering - ??? Does anyone change it and if so with what?

I'll do both fuel filters, air and oil. So far they have been genuine items. Bloody expensive.

Any other things I should be doing?

    Thanks in advance.

Front & rear I use Penrite blue. 80-90 LSD. If Arb air locker use castrol multitrax.
Coolant genuine, or Penrite red 6 year 350,000 Klm's.
Auto Penrite full synthetic LV ( low viscosity) warranty approved.
Transfer case nulon smooth shift 75-90 or more multitrax.
Power steer don't worry or if you fussy use the Penrite lv same as auto.

Other As far as parts & fluids:

    Brake fluid flush
I recommend Injectors at 120k & Valve clearance check is due, so you are r&r anyway.........

Remember you have two fuel filters if you are diesel.
Castrol have page that lists all their oils by make/model (if you want to use their ones) http://www.datateck.com.au/lube/castr_au/

            Personal preference.

Some people like brand new. I like new stuff. Value $1650. 12 months warranty.

Some people like BDG blueprinted, full DLC. 3 year 50,000k warranty. Quieter too! Value $1300.

My 120D4D is sitting at 118,500 km and I leave for the GTG next week. Oops! Can any decent mechanic do the valve clearance check or is it a Toyota special tools job?

Also had Baileys replace the injectors last year (and recently again under warranty as #3 was sticking). Do i need to have the seals replaced again? I am guessing not.

Checking valve clearance doesn't need any special tools, any competant mechanic could do it, probably should have got baileys to check whilst they were in there.

I wouldn't bother pulling the injectors to change the seats if they are only a few thousand k old.

                  Cheers Andrew

Yes, any decent mechanic can check the clearances. No special tools.

Did BDG check your valve clearances? I check & record all valve clearances when I do injectors.
You just do it every 120k, depending what is found at 120k & if they are adjusted or not.
The injector seas/sheets will be fine for 120k also if they were fitted to good clean surface.
Some holes are quite filthy, especially if they have had blow by

Many fitters don't spend the time to clean properly, so who knows how long they will last
                    Clean

Anyway, if they were not checked it will have to be opened up at 160 or 200k.
They will probably be ok, but a small percentage are out a bit much.

The soot restrictor should help reduce the wear

Cheers ####. Just checked with BDG - valve clearances were checked as part the investigations when I had the warranty replacement done recently. Seats all good too. Happy days...

Hi. Everyone forgets about the cabin Air Filter. it is behind the glove box and a 5 minute job to replace.

Yep, did mine yesterday as part of the 200k service... looked like it hadn't been changed in a while, so good thing I checked it.

O gee wizz, look there I am back in march last year saying I like new injectors. (17months ago).
Certainly not pushing baileys. But sticking to the facts. FAIR.

You know, I have never seen a valve clearance need adjusting on a 1kd under 120,000k.
That's why I say, don't waste your money at 40k & 80k. If it has capped service I do not care, don't risk contamination.
Here DENSO say how important it s to keep it clean.

Another note from DENSO CRD service manual:

                            Troubleshooting cautions
Observe the following cautions to avoid decreased engine performance and fuel injector malfunctions.
                            • Use the designated fuel.
                            • Avoid water and foreign material intrusion into the fuel tank.
                            • Periodically check and clean the filter.
Do not unnecessarily disassemble sealed components
