  • Scangauge vs Ultragauge

Has anyone had the chance to compare Scangauge and Ultragauge in compatiability and features and is there anything else out there that is better

I'm happy with my U-Scan from supercheap. It uses an Android or I-phone app to display the parameters you need.

They are selling it for $143. You will need to pay $8-$126 extra depending on which modules and how many different vehicles you want. I spent $15 for the drivechain module on all vehicles. At this stage it seems you need to use the generic vehicle settings for the Prado as its not listed. It works well. you can graph temps, revs or whatever parameter you choose.

Very interesting Greg. I'm sure you will be only too happy to demonstrate next time our paths cross.

AFAIK the Ultragauge does not give you Auto Trans Temp or Torque Convertor Temp. The Scangauge however, can be programmed to show these by using the X-gauge feature. That was the only difference I could find. I prefer the look of the Ultragauge, but wanted the ATF and TC temps because I've got an auto.

Very happy with the Scangauge II in our 2005 V6. For $200 it's sooo worth it, just for the ATF temp feature and digital coolant temp! There are more features and readouts than we really need, which makes it fun to play with at times.

If you can afford a ScanGauge, they're great. UltraGauge is much cheaper and with the new trans temp ability you aren't missing out on much going with it over the other.

I can confirm that the ultragauge blue can display any scangauge x-gauge codes. I have both ATF and Torque Converter temps working flawlessly.

What Year is your Prado as I am trying to determine if the Ultra Gauge Blue would work on my 03/2005 GXL?

If it is a 6-speed manual or a 5-speed auto, then it will work. Otherwise see here http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...n-M-OBD-Prados

Can you point me in the direction of the instructions for doing this?

r4ndll, check out the knowledge base article here:

I had some issues getting the gauges shown for the 2.8 GXL Auto, but with the excellent support from Ultragauge, we were able to get them working. If anyone from Perth is interested in a Ultragauge Blue, I have a spare. P.M for info.

Are you guys running the bluetooth version of the ultra gauge via a iPhone? if so, how does it work with the cars bluetooth? e.g., if the phone is paired to the ultra gauge, and a call comes in etc....will it still go via the cars bluetooth? make sense?

                          Cheers

I am using a Nexus 7 tablet on a ram mount for the Ultragauge and Oziexplorer connections and the cars Bluetooth is connected to my android phone, so no conflict there. I will check tomorrow night if I can connect both car and Ultragauge simultaneously to my Android phone and see what happens when a call is received.
