  • Water UNDER the carpet in driver's foot well

I've got persistent damp/water under the carpet in the driver's foot well of my 2004 Prado Grande 4.0L.
I've tried to find the cause of this on my own, but I'm sh*t out of ideas. Has anybody else had this issue?

The water seems to be coming in underneath the carpet somewhere, as it's never wet on top.
    I've already tried/checked the following:
-AC evaporator drain (in passenger foot well) is clear
-Front sunroof drain holes are clear
-No obvious play in the windscreen to suggest a leak from there. Still original Toyota windscreen (even their glass is reliable?!)
-Doesn't use any coolant at all, dampness doesn't smell chemical, which in theory rules out a leaking heater core?
-Drain hole in bottom of the center console fridge is clear/runs out under the car

Any wisdom would be greatly appreciated, the smell is starting to drive me mad!
    Thanks

P.S. There's a case of beer (solver's choice) on offer, if anyone can solve this.

I presume you have checked the rubber grommets in the floor pan are still in place!

      Do u have a Roofrack?

Actually I don't drink beer, well I don't buy alcohol, well only for others, if I can't persuade them to a juice.
But I'm thirsty, so you could come over so I can try to solve it.
A 6 pack of Smirnoff black or Canadian & dry could solve it.

      Cheers

Aye. Water will flow nicely through those holes in the roof unless carefully sealed.

If leaking from the roof rack, the symptom is wet seat belts.

I discovered water running into the cabin through the seatbelt hole yesterday, figured it was coming from the roofrack mounts, will be removing the roofrack to seal it when i'm back from work, hope it doesn't rain too much in the next fortnight as she's parked outside.

Any tips for sealing it up?

I'd be checking any grommets etc that are under the carpet, even those through the fire wall. Id also check for damage to the floor pan. My sister's car had a huge gash in the floor and we didn't notice till long after we had bought it. The carpet did a marvelous job of hiding the damage.

Soggy carpet too though Andrew. The one and only time I have seen it the carpet was smelly and wet and the seatbelt just a bit damp.

Depends which pillar the water runs down.

It can go forward & fix up the computer real well too.

Maybe check your sunroof drainage holes as well - They are very small and can possibly clog. (Like mine did just recently.)

I did have a wet roof lining, but then also we carpet.

Check the seal on your plennum where air goes through to your pollen filter, most clog up after dust or debris filled drives. Check if your pollen filter is wet or filled with crap.. if it is pull your front wiper assemblies off take out the 4-5 clips and screws holding the plennum and look for clogged drains and plugs.
                          goodluck!!

Hi , I had a similar problem , about a year ago , I had a new set of genuine roof racks fitted , it rained a fair bit , we noticed a damp smell over the next week or so , and after reading on this site about what to check ,suggestions were to pull out fully the seat belts I discovered the 2 front ones to be damp , so took off the cover panels and there was a fair amount of water , and driver floor mats damp also , so we cleaned dried it all out and removed the roof racks , and discovered there wasn't any sealing washers around the screws on the front set , the others were ok , so I cleaned the area got some washers and used Sikaflex around all of the holes , and since that has been done no more leaks , I should have fitted them myself in the first place , hope this helps , john

                              Hi there,

I'm a newbie to Prado Point and was reading through various topics and came across yours. Did you ever find the leak? I recently had a windscreen replaced and then noticed a water leak down the drivers side A pillar from about mid point to the floor pan. Lucky I had sand grabber mats to catch the water!! I took the Prado back to the windscreen bloke and he couldn't find a leak. He suggested I check the factory roof rails bolts on the front mount as they have a tendency to leak. He was kind enough to give me a nearly empty tube of eurothane to seal the bolts. Once i took the bolts out, raised the roof rail, sealed it with a goop of eurothane and rebolted the leak stopped. Fingers crossed thats the last of the leaks
