  • WWYD with $2k...?

What would you do with $2,000?
120 series D4D with new Baileys injectors and Toyota Alloy Bullbar - no other mods to date.
Looking for a focus on improving reliability, preventative measures, etc. like catch can, EGR/Intake Clean, dual batteries, diesel pre-filter, exhaust, snorkel, etc, etc. A/T tyres already fitted...
I will predominantly be a tourer (with Jayco Swan Pop-Top), will be including some gravel, but not rock crawling though.
Need ideas from you peeps with greater experience/knowledge than I currently have.
    Stan Miko

If you're towing on dirt then a suspension upgrade is a must. Safety first. Other than that a dual battery system is worth every penny for so many different reasons.

I would spend it on whatever you want and keep saving, you will need more!

Couldn't agree more. Every mod seems to need another mod to make the first mod effective. And the process continues!

My first $2k is going to be predominately smaller stuff:
                Recovery points
                UHF
                Dual Battery
                Custom drawers
                Compressor

And then a 2 inch lift after all that, coupled with a roof basked & awning and it should be pretty much where i want it for offroading!

In your case if you are towing & touring id be looking at suspension stuff to make it a lot nicer as well as a dual battery, but then I assume your jayco already has a fridge & its own battery so that may be un-neccessary.
If you are going to be offroad towing or even towing on dirt tracks, a compressor might be the go so you can play around with tyre pressures to make your life a bit easier.

first, whatever it takes to make a diesel reliable - I am a V6 bloke so outside my expertise.

second, Spotlights to help keep camels/roos/pedestrians out of that nice and reliable engine bay.

Third, suspension bushes and bearings if they have not been redone as yet, to help keep the spotlights AND the engine on the road

                  Then a dual battery set-up

                  Then a second spare

Then a suspension upgrade to cope with all of the additional weight.

                  Then a set of Maxtrax.

All things designed to keep you going and doing so safely.

I have never understood the fitting of drawers - a raised platform has always been MUCH more flexible for me.

                  YMMV, Tony

                        I would start with:

                        Snorkel for the clean air.
Dual batteries for camping power & Fridge etc.
Decent sump-guard / bash plate. Even without rock crawling, without a suspension lift it's all too easy to graze the bottom over even small rocks. The factory one is nothing more than a splash guard, I welded mine back up 3 or 4 times before I just accepted defeat and bought a 4mm stainless sump guard.

Then with your next $2k, get a suspension lift. The difference in ride is worth every cent.
Prado 120 in Grey, 2" Lift, 5T winch, 55" LED bar and roof cage, home-built rear drawers, camping lights, Dual battery, Polyair bags and a custom axillary power system.

                              Roof rack?
I have one on my list just for the fact that I dont have a ute and have to borrow a trailer when needed.
Would be handy to have one to be able to whack on longer stuff if needed.

Also extra storage for camping gear!!
