  • Negotiating "Toyota Means Business 2008" deal

    Hi all,

First post. Did the obligatory search before posting and couldn't find an answer. So here goes...

I noticed on the Toyota site that they have a deal on at the moment on the GXL petrol auto at $51990. Having not bought a new car before, I'm wondering given this is a Toyota offer am I still able to negotiate further or do I accept this price and try and negotiate a good deal on the accessories.

Appreciate any guidance and thanks for such an informative site.

    Elmo

    Welcome to the board elmo.

I'm no expert, but I have a friend who is a Toyota dealer and he tells me that they don't have movement on the prices set by Toyota. They win sales with service, aftermarket support deals (servicing etc) and options.

    That's my understanding at least.

there is always room to haggle.
the longer a vehicle is sitting on the lot for, the more discount you get.
and i'm talking days not months.
something that has been on a lot for 50 to 60 days, they will discount alot.
so ask/haggle. it's worth it to you to ask and try.
if you are willing to sign that day, you'll see the price lower real quickly.

        Hi Elmo,
I just bought the Prado at that price, I didnt recieve any further discount, but I actually signed my contract a week before the price drop. My dealer matched the new price (after a haggle).
They dont have much room to move on that 51,990 I dont think. Im sure you could get something on accessories though.
Remember when the price goes back up at the end of June your deal will look great.

Just bought my first Prado, GXL Petrol. It was a blue Dec07 model with 20km on clock for $52,000 drive away with a towbar. Very happy considering I looked at the car 2 months ago and it was $62,000 drive away.

                Hi Guys,

I bought my Prado back in 2006 during the same sort of deal. At the time they where offering $49,999 plus on road. We managed to haggle them down so that it was $51,000 but included on road costs, tow bar, light and bonnet protectors, cargo mats (front and rear), car seats for all three rows, cargo mat for boot space plus a full tank of diesel. I know at another dealer I could have probably got about another $100 off but this dealer is close to work and I have been using them (till now) for servicing.

The funny thing was one of the dealers then rang me back and when he heard I had signed was real angry because he was gonna gove me an even better deal

I am sure you can get the price down alot more then that.
I just purchased a 2008 Prado GXL Turbo Diesel on the weekend with a few extras (tow bar and rain shields) for only $49,990 on road. I've been told I got myself a fantastic bargin!
I take delivery of it in 3 months though due to the high demand of Diesel cars at the moment. :? But I cant wait!!

I would like to see a copy of the quote ...

                      Current prices:

GXL Diesel $53,165 (goes up $500 from 1/7/08)
                      Metallic paint $273
                      Tow Bar (est) $500
                      Weathershields ???
Delivery $625 (fleet buyers - others pay more)
                      SUB TOTAL $54,563 (+ ???)

                      GST @ 10% of Sub $5,456

                      SUB TOTAL (inc GST) $60,019

                      Stamp Duty QLD $1,890
                      Rego $272
                      CTP $286
                      TOTAL PRICE $62,467.

So to get it on-road for under $50k you get a $12,500 discount. The current fleet discount is running at around $5,500 - $6,000 and good bargainers can get close to this without a fleet number.

I'm sorry but this does not ring true in my experience. I would need to see evidence to become a believer. In another post I queried some of the buy prices seen on this forum and was hounded down as someone who doesn't know how to cut a deal. But I know how much margin the dealers make and in your case you are being given the car for their loss - unlikely.

I'm sure this will start some sort of flame war which can be sorted by posting the dealer's offer sheet so others can take advantage of this spectacular deal.

If I had a scanner I would copy it and send it to you.
I know I got myself a great deal as I work with 3 people who own 2007 GXL Turbo Diesel Prados that paid alot more then what I paid. I have shown them the quote also as they didn't believe I could get such a good deal and when I showed them the proof they were shocked.
The thing I forgot to mention is that it is Manual, but thats only $2000 off the total price. Plus I forgot to mention the free tank of diesel.

The only way I can see that I have got such a good deal is that it is End of the Financial year sale?

I didnt even plan on purchasing a Prado anytime soon but couldnt Knock back such a good price.

I'm happy to share my price, but don't want to identify who, it's not the massive discount you mentioned but I'm happy nevertheless.

                          GXL Manual 55,790
                          dealer discount 4,146.75-
                          Factory discount 2,750-
                          metallic paint 300
                          opt pk 1000
                          reverse sensors 615
                          dealer delivery 890
                          rego 829.75
                          govt stamp duty 1,685
                          Total paid 54,213

This was the best quote I received, I also received a Corolla for a month whilst I wait at no extra cost. Plus, they purchased my accessories (15% discount) for me with an invoice from the retailer so I can put it on one invoice for my lease. I very happy with the price I've paid. And received great service. My pickup should be tomorrow.

If you're talking about me, then no, not second hand but new.
