  • Engine Oil Changing

Fellas and perhaps ladies (my wife certainly doesn't do this),

The first and only time I changed the engine oil in my D4D it was a disaster. The oil plummeted into the drain tray at such a high velocity that a lot of it bounced out of the tray onto the garage floor. I guess this was due to the volume of engine oil and the height of the drain bung from the floor.

Has anyone worked out a way to stop the oil ricocheting off the tray onto the floor?

    Thanks and regards
    Glenn

Get your self a cheap drop sheet from bunnings or some kitty litter and that will make it a bit easier to keep under control

Just be careful with the plastic drop sheets as if the oil is hot it will melt the plastic :P

Grab a 20L drum and cut a side out. Works a treat, just make sure you leave the cap on the opposite side to the side you cut out. Makes for easy pouring back into your waste container.

I just cut the bootom out of a 20 Litre steel drum with high sides to allow for splash and about 15 litres of oil. I use newspapers under the tin and use a funnel to pour the oil into my 20 Litre waste oil drum.

I bought a 8L drain container from supercheap and put down newspaper everywhere with rags lying around just incase.

I also where disposable gloves (the doctors type)as that black stuff gets everywhere and I just peel the gloves off when finished .I usually go through 4 sets.

I then pour it all back into a 20L drum and depose of it.

This might sound dumb but have you tried holding the tray up to the plug with one hand while unscrewing the plug with another just to stop the first big splash? once it gets going its fine.

Cheap easy and can do it straight away.
