  • Help me to decide on the right PRADO

    Hello..

I am lucky that i joined this outstanding community..

Actually, i am going to buy a second-hand Prado, 4 cylinder, i prefer the 3 door one, someone claims that it consumes less than the regular 5 door, specially those who has 4C engine.. is that correct?..

My second and last quest : should i buy a Prado that exceeds 85.000KM ??

    Sorry for my bad english.

    Thank you

Well, thats the $85,000 question isn't it? When you buy second hand you're always taking a risk. Car detailers and shonky salesman know all the tricks this side of the black stump to hide defects, dings and other signs of bad ownership. At the end of the day you need to either find a reputable second hand dealer (yes, they do exist) or have the vehicle checked by a trusted authority who can give it a tick of approval or big black mark. Check the service history and make sure all services have been completed, once again by a mechanic shop you recognise as being reputable. Prado's with 85,000k on the clock should still be going strong if they've been looked after. If it was used for beach rally's and demolition derby's at the weekend then you'd very likely want to walk away straight up. You need to be satisfied the vehicle has been looked after properly. Do not just take somebodies word for it.

I've never seen or driven a 3 door Prado. Well I saw a picture of one but thats it. Kind of like the old short wheelbase Toyota's by the look of it. I haven't read anything that suggests the 3 door Prado is more fuel efficient. They would be lighter in weight (assumed!) and have less wind resistance than the 5 door Prado. How much lighter I really don't know. My thoughts are that real world gains over the 5 door would be negligible at most.

Thanks for dropping by MFC and let us know how you get on. Post a pic of the beast when you get it right!!!! 8) 8)

wow!! IRON-PAWW thank you for your great advice..

well, the car i've found looks fine, but the guy at Montpelleir (France) who tested it, said it smokes a lil when its engine starts.. here's a pic of the car :

i live in Mauritania (West africa) where there's endless ergs (dunes) and regs (rocky desert) with tabular small mountains.. the segments of The famous Dakar Rally running in Mauritania are the most challenging in all off-road racing.

.. that's why i decide to own a Prado, but the car am going to buy is actually a 85.000KM age..

am still wondering if the 3 doors is really more fuel efficient...

          Thank you all.
