  • Focal Audio Now doing Toyota kits.

While it doesn't list the Prado as a fitment option I do wonder if these kits would fit, as they seem have a large swath of Toyotas covered and most manufacturers tend to use a lot of interchangeable parts between cars.

I'm pretty sure someone on here has already done this, (you might need to do a search ). From memory they also added a lot of dynamat sound deadening to the doors.

I asked an audio guy about these speakers when I upgraded my head unit. He said the standard Prado speakers were pretty good. I'm not sure if this was true or not.... Those focals are 75w RMS, so could probably benefit from a small amp to get the most out of them too.

Dom, yes they will fit for sure. But for what it's worth, any 6x9 speaker will fit. You have two options for fitting. I often gut the speaker from the plastic pod and then fit new speakers to the original pod. Or I use two pairs of 25mm carpeted mdf spacers that offer the same mounting. My preference is the spacers with a bunch of dynamat or similar sound deadening.

Yeah, often kits like these are over inflated pricing for the manufacturers base models - you can usually get a few steps up in spec if you buy them alone.
You are much better off sourcing your own speakers - they should fit the standard wiring with minimal to no extra effort.

If you want the best sound, running new speakers & speaker wire to an amp is the minimum, as the internal amp on the stock head unit is average at best & the wiring is much the same.
A new head unit will step it up a notch as well as a sub & amp if you have room.

Its not a real lot of extra mucking around to wire up if you are handy, and if you are going to think about upgrading speakers, you might as well go the whole hog.
If you have ever had a car with an aftermarket audio system, you will know how much better it will sound!

The exchange rate is a bit dodgy at the moment, but sonic electronix in the states have some awesome audio gear for awesome prices.

For what its worth... in Toyotas its not usually worth running the speaker wire to the speakers. The factory wiring is often heavy enough to handle quite a large whack of power. I often just run all four pairs of speaker wire to the wiring behind the headunit and disconnect the wiring from the headunit.

I think my Prado was one of the select few that I did upgrade the speaker wiring but I'm pushing 250wrms into my front doors. Cos I'm crazy like that lol.
