  • Winch rope UV and general protection sleeve

    Hi all,

Would anybody have any ideas on a UV protective sleeve for the winch rope that pokes out the of the bull bar connected to my shackle and retrieval point to protect it from every day grime, road tar, UV damage etc? What is the best way to store the rope when not in use? I currently have it running about 1 foot under the bull bar minus the hook as the hook was hanging down on the retrieval loop and was fouling on the bull bar if wound in.
    Cheers.

My rope has a bright orange sleeve which covers the first 2 metres. It's a fabric sleeve much like riggers tape, tube-like. We used to use a similar green coloured tape to make improvised Willis seats for climbing/abseiling back in my army days.

Thanks Bushbasher. I got one with the kit but how do i get it over the lead hook connector or do I have to un-spool the rope to put it on at the drum end? It dosnt seem to have the stretch to go over the lead rope eye. Cheers

Get some rope protector from a climbing shop. You need to take the rope off to fit the spool to fit. Fit 2 pieces, 1 on the first wrap on the spool, the other on the last wrap. Oh and having your rope connected to your recovery point will do more damage than UV. Fit a 'Kong' or 'Prolink' instead.

I might just unspool the rope, cut the hi vis length I got in half and feed it onto each end. Thanks for the ideas people!

Well at least I would have had the high vis ID been larger than the rope.
