  • Cracked weld seam rear door

    Hi all.

Just wondering if anybody has done a successful repair on a rear door weld crack. Mine is located on the hinge side and runs from about 150mm from the bottom up about 350mm along the folded seam where they put the shitty weld. Just a tip. Dont let the door swing open to its limit when parked on a slope to the drivers side like the wife did. After it happened , the weld crack went from about 25mm to 350 in an instant. The door now sags about 25mm on the locator latch middle left at the lock. Bummed

Been quoted second hand door without the trimmings at $700 minimum. New around $1300 I believe.

Cheers and a happy new year to all!

Easy to fix the door sag. Using a couple of washers. Get a jack with wood protection and take the weight off the hinges. Slacken the holding bolts and in the bottom one slip 1 (or in my case 2) washers behind the bolt; tighten and then relieve jack. Worked a treat for my rear door sag and cots a total of about $3.

I have some small cracks which haven't extended and don't worry me. The door hangs OK and opens and closes fine. You might be bale to get the cracks re-welded. Someone else can comment on this aspect.

Somewhere on this site is a thread which shows exactly how to achieve it with pics.

Just an update OGF. I took the rig to a panel beater bloke i use far too often( here in Sydney south if anyone needs one, does cashies and a great job), who lifted and re-bolted the sagging door for me at no cost!! Door sits perfectly after he re aligned it. The crack on the weld seam travels from the bend on the bottom of the door to well over the top hinge. So in the end the door CAN be re hung and adjusted without a re-weld or spacing/ packing the bolts.

Thanks for the ideas anyway troops.

              Hello boys,
I did the washer repair on the bottom hinge many moons ago works well , in earlier post it does say not to take the 2 bolts out so door doesn't swing and you struggle to find the holes again, ( only doing bottom hinge )
Loosen both bolts then take one bolt out and put in the washer, replace that bolt enough to hold the door then do the other bolt on the same hinge.
I couldn't see how it would work but it works perfectly.
              Cheers Alan.
