  • 120 Petrol That Knows it's Been Serviced - Help

    Hi Guy's,

I have an 05 Petrol Prado, 5 spd Auto on gas, which some how knows it has had an oil change and plays up every time. In park or Neutral it will idle and rev fine, no flat spot or miss, nice and smooth. Select drive and it develops a terrible flat spot just off idle, can barley climb the hill out the driveway, and generally behaves like a pig, won't select the right gear, you have to plant you foot to get it to go anywhere, and even then the gear changes are all harsh and clunky. It is like it goes into limp mode.

Over time (100-200 km's) it seems to correct itself, like the computer is learning to drive again, although twice the only thing that has fixed it has been an auto trans service. I initially thought it may have had to do with the MAF sensor, as cleaning that has occasionally made a difference in t the past, but I have just recently proved that this is not the case. I have tried every variation of a service trying to eliminate what tells it it has had an oil change. Oil and all filters, some filters, no filters etc

Any help with where to look next would be greatly appreciated as I am running out of ideas and start getting apprehensive come service time.

    Cheers,

    Dylan

Yep it's a mystery. Mine does it when serviced at a mechanic but not when I service it myself. They don't disconnect the battery which would reset the Ecu but it can be like a hesitation and power loss in the first few kms. I don't know why it does it. I have replaced everything, coil packs, crank sensor, plugs, maf and inlet o2 seniors and had the valves reshimmed but still can be temperamental at times.

Its obvious that your vehicles were assembled by Females!
Sorry no help. Only had ours run a bit rough after cleaning the MAF sensor but then only for a short time. Then its better for the clean.
