  • Japan imported 2008 without VSC?

    Hi guys,

I am from New Zealand, and had a 2008 Tx LTD imported. It arrived in NZ one week after they released a new law which states that all import 4x4 must have ESC. It seems that the model I imported does not have ESC (VSC in this case) and hence wont be allowed on the road. I had a look at the car at the testing center, and couldn't find any switch which said 'VSC off'. The dashboard VSC lights do not come up during power on. We took the car to the local Toyota dealer to try and scan it and see the output. However they couldn't complete the scan saying that since it was a Japanese import, their scanner couldn't communicate with the ABS unit. They then checked the part number of the ABS unit against their parts catalogue to see if it had any mention on VSC and they couldn't find.

I've contacted the dealer in Japan who is trying to find out this information from Toyota Japan.

I'm in a bit of mess and this has completely taken me down. NZTA (NZ Transport Agency) have not been very helpful when I spoke to them either.

Is there anyway I can find out for certain if it has VSC? Chassis number is TRJ120-5134050 . Engine model is 2TRFE, 2700cc.

    Thanks a lot.

In Oz models, the Prado came with VSC/ESC if it had Traction Control fitted. The way to tell this is if the low range lever had H-N-L and the centre diff lock has a separate button.
