  • What price did you pay ?

I am looking at purchasing a TD GXL prado in the next couple of weeks.
Orginally I was looking at trading my 04 BA Falcon SR in on it and getting an 04 model for a 20 thousand change over.

Looks like with all the discounting at the moment (due to the new TD engine) I might be able to get a new one for a similar price.

So can anyone help me out and let me know what sort of deal you got ? I am in Adelaide if that helps.

Mate there is a brand spanking Pilbara at CMI for $47k, close enough to a GXL, I think
    Silver manual TD off memory
    Hope that helps

Gold level fleet is about $8to 9k off list price for a Prado if that is any help to you

I am after the auto, well the mrs wants the auto anyway.
Thanks for the info, which cmi ?

That does sound like a reasonable deal!
What is the difference between a pilbara and a gxl ?

thanks for the tip, i am having a look at a few 1 or 2 year old ones on the weekend. If the prices are similar to the new one then i will just go suss out the new one.

This site is great and everyone is really helpful.

I was looking at a 1 year old second hand turbo diesel for 47k
that doesnt include stamp duty which makes it the same price as a new one ?!

I would say 49k for a new one drive away is the absolute base price they could go to. Or has anyone done better than that ? There may be more room to move if i take my trade in ?

            http://www.cmitoyota.com.au/cgi-bin/new ... 82,00.html

I think this is the runout sale before the new turbo diesel. Not sure on the truthfulness of this post on the lcool email list but here is a partial quote from someone called Stanislav

"The new (updated) Prado will be released this year in November and will have the D4D turbo-diesel but an updated version than the current hilux version that will be 10kW more powerful and have 20nM more torque"

There is no way I am spending above 50k. Just cannot get it past the chief financial controller. I guess I will see what sort of deal i can get on a new one, and if it aint good enough go back and look at the 1 year old one.

OK, so this is where i ask for comments on the current diesel engine. I know the new one is better in all areas, power, torque, and fuel economy and I am aware the new auto will have a 5 speed on the diesel but the existing diesel in the prado mated to the 4 speed transmission is still a good engine right ? Tried and tested ? Does the job ?

Go see Kevin at CMI Adelaide and tell him to crunch the figures to something your happy with.

Anything around the 49 onroad (Brand New) is a good buy, most end up paying around the 52+ mark.
Which CMI dealership does kevin work at?

He is a straight shooter, and won't bullshit you around.I went to him and said, here's what I want to pay, what can you do?
I Gave him and another dealer (Cornes Unley) 24 hours to come back to me with a one chance only best price.
He called me in 4 hours and the price was right ($10 over my expected best price, Yes $10.00 AUD)..So I accepted there n then.

Cornes finally called me after 2 days(actually when I was with CMI signing) and their price was 5 grand more. When I said what I was paying they said, Oh Ok thats a great price.
20 minutes later they rang back and actually bettered the CMI price by another 500 or so bucks, I didn't go for it as I had said they had one chance to come up with a good deal, they needed prompting to get to their "best" price, I dont respect that.

One of my mates just bought a GXL here in ADL and it was 50500 mark. (Towbar, Factory Bar, Reverse sensors, Mats, Boot Mat all included. (This is a nice price).

You will find doing your homework that second hand hold resale value very well!
A lot of dealers still wait for the bunnies that come in and look at second hand thinking it will be cheaper than a new one. Most don't even check new prices.

My Brother just bought a Pajero exceed, (Cause he's a tightarse and doesnt know what is a decent 4wd) 1 yr old, 8000 kms, it was 18k less than new price ! Hows that for resale (Not)..

Don't go to a dealer expecting to pay nothing, its just rude to them and they wont respect you or play the game.
DO your homework, look around and see how you go.

Check Redbook.com.au for current prices 2nd hand and new.

Another mate has just got a decent price for a new hilux thru Jarvis at St Marys too, may be worth a shot.

I suspect the Diesel prado's wont come down more in price until a few weeks before the new ones hit the market.
I will spend saturday afternoon shopping around. In no rush so if they want my sale they can call me with a good deal. Thanks for the information mate, it really is helpful. Where did your mate get that gxl from that you mentioned ?
