Jakarta trip was work, its a regular thing where i am there for 3 weeks every 3 months.

We drove the turbo diesel prado and it just wasnt right for us. We thought about waiting for the new engine but we needed a new car now. So we went and looked at the pathfinders and once again the chief financial officer straight away went for the navara.

Really really nice car and it suits us down to the ground. The prado's are nice and if the new diesel was in it I reckon we would have bought one. But I just knew that I wouldnt be happy if we bought the old diesel.

Someone on the overlander forum said something that was true "If you are not smiling when you are driving it then you are in the wrong rig" and I tell you what I have a smile from ear to ear!!

I got my 05 GXL TDI last November and it cost me $47K on road. That included Rust Proof, Roof Racks, Windows darkened,Tow Bar and Rain Protection Cover over Front windows(forgot what they are called, but I'm sure you know). I purchased it an Bris. and it had 54kms on the clock. I have since added a Nudge bar, Glind Hot Water system plus a couple of other smaller items. I reckon I got a good price, must have got them on a run out week. Nobby

Yeah, I just kept saying "I definately want to buy one but you're to expensive". They of course come back with "How much are you prepared to pay". I say "that's my business not yours, when you match me figure I'll buy a truck off you" I think they started about $60k. I would think with the new one around soon you should have the advantage. Go for the throat but don't tell them how much you've got to spend. Nobby

i went to mosman toyota today (north sydney), test drove the new prado. love it.

looking at the GXL, auto petrol. they started off with their list price of $49,990, but once you added everything to it (including tinted windows and some mats) it came out to $59,420. i laughed at the guy and told him i was interested in buying new but we were going to have to work on price. i also told him that i would be contacting a car broker and see what they can do for me (apparently car brokers can get volume prices from dealers). you should have seen the look of dismay on the salesguy's face :-)

so, now have to talk to car broker. $60k, wowzers. that's expensive.

what are the areas that i can work on to reduce the price? the two areas i can see are 1) the price of the vehicle and 2) the dealer delivery charge of $3500....also, throwing in some of the mats for free, etc.. i'm thinking that i can get the price of the vehicle down by $5000 (i'm an optimist).

will keep you updated. i was thinking of the charcoal grey, looked good on paper, wasn't able to see an actual vehicle with the colour though. they had no blues available in all of australia (apparently).

Hi, a month ago, we got a runout auto GXL TD with mats, towbar, 5yr extended warranty, tints, rustproof & underbody sound deadner/protection for $54,500 from Brian Hilton Toyota, Gosford. You have to be prepared to tell the salesman what you want and go elsewhere if you cant get it. I still reckon I could have done better, with more accessories, but I didn't research enough. For $60k, you should be driving away in a VX for sure. Now is the best time to buy because an updated model is due now so dealerships will be keen to make room for new stock. Good Luck.....

                      Mark.

actually looking at a petrol, so can't use the 'new diesel coming out' line.

you think i can knock off $7k to $53k drive away price? i've never bought a new vehicle before, so not sure what kind of margins dealers play with. i know they have to make money, but i also know that there's no point giving them cash for nothing.
