anyone know the tax implications (if any) for a NSW resident buying a vehicle in QLD and bringing it back to NSW? for that kind of savings, it'll worth the trip (and a good way to break in the motor and add some kms to meet my FBT requirement of 15k+ kms.

as long as you pay queensland stamp duty when u buy it no problems
rego is cheaper here as well although you may need to provide a queensland address (although the address of hotel is sufficient)
if you are questioned i suggest you say " i intended to move to queensland but the job didnt work out / girlfriend dumped me / dog ate my homework so now im going back"

not quite that easy
Qld will allow you to purchase and register in the state if you have a legitimate address and reason
I recently bought a camper trailer in Bris, used my friends address and avoided nsw stamp duty, as i was on an extended "tour" of Qld and not planning to return to NSW any time soon.
You will need an address and a rate notice or similar to set up an account with Qld transport, they will then allow you to register your vehicle with a Qld residential address and a NSW billing address
Bear in mind that NSW Police can issue an infringement for some obscure reason if rego is not transfered to NSW within a specified time of "moving" to that state. but the savings in admin costs with NSW stamp duty and rego can be substantial

has everyone bought their cars outright (no trade in's?) cause I'm not sure you can come up with a definitive figure when trading in another vehicle. I got better than the nominated red-book 'Private' sale for my trade in, but in reality you could say the Prado was really cheaper than quoted and they just jacked up the trade in to make the change-over figure agreeable.
