  • Ticking noise from brakes

    Hi everyone.
Ive got an issue that i cant seem to solve. I recently bought an 06 petrol prado.
There was a noise coming from what i assume is the brakes as I'm driving along, it doesn't matter what speed its just there.
The noise is like somethings loose, its like a ticking noise or a rattling noise.
The reason i assume its the brakes as the moment the touch the brakes the noise stops.
So i pulled the wheel off and found that the front brake pads were shot so have put brand new ones in both sides and replaced the clips that weren't there.
Thinking i had solved the possible problem now i took it for a drive but yet the noise returned.
The wife thinks the noise could be coming from the rear brakes as thats where she thinks it is as she drives but i cant find what it is.
Has anyone come across this issue and can point me in the right direction please as its rather annoying and loud driving along and don't really want to get charged lots of $$ from the mechanics if it ends up being something simple that i can fix.
    Cheers

Check the spring clips that hold the rear hand brake shoes in place, they can come loose and cause ticking. They are a pig of a thing to get back into place, you will need pliers and a screw driver and a shed load of patience

Some months ago I changed the four rotors and brake pads. About a month ago I started to notice a 'ticking' sound just like you describe although braking makes no difference. Its noticeable after 80 km/h and when you are passing a barrier. Its about the rate of one tick with every wheel rotation, just as load on the left as is on the right and seems to come through the cab from underneath.

I've looked at the tyres, raised and rotated the wheels but no can find.

Not sure if we have the same problem bit will be looking at the rear brakes as troypl suggested.

I found it was the antivibration clips were missing on all 4 calapers. Who ever did the brakes before I bought the car didn't know what they were doing. Since then my problem has stopped
