  • Air Conditioner Stopped

    Hi All

So yesterday morning, the A/C was working, by the afternoon when I got back in to go home, hot air only (well not hot but not the coolness of a nice working A/C).

A little investigation shows that the clutch is not cutting in on the compressor. So first thought was a fuse had gone. Tried to find the right fuse but cant seem to find one apart from one labelled IG1.

So at the front of the car is the sight glass and a (what I think is) pressure switch - next to a filling point with a cap (H). The sight glass is clear and the pressure switch never changes state (checked with DMM) after starting the car - so maybe its lost its charge? Is the sight glass supposed to show the flow of refrigerant when running.

What else can I do to check the system?

    Thanks

    Mick

Did you check the magnetic clutch relay?

No, but reading it seems like a common failure so will check.

A quick search shows that I don't know where to find this relay. I thought it was the one labelled IG, but some refer to a 30A relay and this one is 50A. Nothing else appears to make logical sense with respects to labeling.

      Any hints on its location.

Found it. Its called MG CLT. I was looking for something referencing the A/C.

The relay was not working. Stole the fog light relay until I get to Jaycar for a replacement.

        Thanks

So its all running ok now?

The sight glass you will see refrigerant flow through it if the compressor is running.
You'll be able to see it change state when the compressor cycles on and off.
If its not running it'll just be clear and wont give you any indication.

The switch near it is a high/low pressure switch that safeguards from high head pressures and loss of refrigerant & also cycles things like the condenser fan etc.
