  • opinion getting prado/touareq

guys, i want to get prado. might be the v6 one so that i can put LPG.
i need opinion from you guys.

    prado grande 2003 v6 118000km for $38000
    prado grande 2004 v6 85000km for $43000
    prado gxl 2005 v6 5sp 65000km for $46000

i wont do offroads, only highway, drive about 50km everyday. which one do you guys recommended?they all have a big km, as i never buy high km car. how about the lifespan if i buy morethan 100000km (how long will the car last)?what about the maintenance cost for prado over 100000km?how big difference between 4sp auto and 5sp auto (terms of fuel)?

i also considering vw touareq 2003 93000km 6sp for $40000. as i also never have any european car, might be anyone here could give me some input

    thanks guys

only highway? then the tourag would be a nice vehicle.

only downside is a space saver spare (unless optioned with teh rear wheel carrier).

at the end of the day i would probably go the one with the least kms.. but that 05 prado seems expensive.. i would try offering them 42-43.. and take it.

Why do you want a Prado if you are not going off road? The Toureg is a great car but only has 5 seats otherwise I would have given it some more thought. Fewer bits available too.

We paid $36,000 for 2005 VX v6 with 89,000km, so all those prices seem a little high to me. Fantastic car, if you are doing hwy kilometres maybe overkill.

Mate has a v8 toerag, very nice car, super thirsty tho. V6 might be better

Why get a 4WD? Do you need to tow something? If not just get a car.

In that case the Prado will not suit your needs as it does not have more space than the 05 Kluger which is quite a roomy car. You need to be looking at a 100 series cruiser for more space imo.

wow, that's kind of good price you paid. just search through drive.com.au and carsales.com.au, i can't find that cheap.

i saw that vx series doesnt have leather seat, is that easy to clean? sometimes baby throw up or spill sometimes, that's why i bought kluger before, good price, nice leather seat, easy to clean the stain.sometimes my baby draw on it too....

how long do you think the car should last? i can't really trust any dealer, for what they say, especially melb city toyota

I would not normally recommend one of these but as you are not going off road then this may suit your needs and save you some money:

                      awp,
you seem to have your heart set on a prado, i don't know if the upcoming baby is number 2,3,4 or more, but i have to say if you don't need the seating or offroad ability of the prado, there would be cars out there that would suit your circumstances better.
Our previous car was a commodore wagon, which was a substantially roomier car in every way except seating capacity.
For what you describe, a territory would appear to fit the bill and for $40k or thereabouts, you should be able to find a newish ghia, with leather.

Our VX has velour trim, beige, not kid friendly at all, but as you say, the price was good and if it gets dirty, well, such is life.

actually i don't really like the look of prado or cruiser. i spent 2 days looking for tough, good, reliable and safe car. last night i read almost the whole thing in this forum. and what i can see, this prado looks like strong and reliable car.thats why i narrow down to prado or touareq. the things that i don't know yet, how long these 2 cars will last long. a guy told me to look for cruiser, but their mileage is almost double.i havent seen teritory yet, but i am not a big fans of ford except xr6t

btw, it's the 2nd baby. so the middle seat gonna be occupied by car seat and capsule. wife sit at the front.sister sit at the back(if we get 7 or 8 seater) or parent often comes from overseas. otherwise we gonna have to drive 2 cars.

                          Hi awp,
for what its worth, i think you are making a wise decision to look a prado. Its a great highway/city vehicle and i would recommend one (especially petrol or petrol/gas) to anyone. Having owned european stuff, (couple of volvos, Peugeots, renaults, one audi - same house as tourag) i would never consider anything other than Japanese again - and preferably toyota. I researched quite extensively before going prado and would not consider the Territory, I understand that they chew a more fuel than the prado, they don't have duel tanks (hard to put on gas), and i doubt very much whether they have the build quality ... they do have nice seats though. Also, the prado retains its value very well. I wouldn't let anyone discourage you.

Hope you find a good one.

                          Regards

by the way, have you checked out the price on new Petrol Prado; apparently Toyota is doing a $52000 deal on GXLs.

                              Awp,
Apologies if am sounding discouraging. These are all questions I asked myself pre-purchase.
What it comes down to is personal preference, I would suggest you drive all of the vehicles on your short list, crawl all over them, fold seats, make sure your pram fits, basically go over them with a fine tooth comb and see which is better for you.
You may find that you can't live with the ride of the tourag or the lack of space in the prado.
As far as longevity is concerned, I believe there are guys on this site who have 200,000ks plus on their cars. As with anything, proper maintenance helps.
We bought privately, hence the better price, just make sure you get all the proper checks, REVS, RTA etc if you go down this road.
Dealers will tell you exactly what you want to hear, but provide that extra bit of piece of mind, with warranties and guaranteed title etc.
I hope you find the car that is right for you, and if it turns out to be a prado, stick around here, 4 wheel driving is really good fun.
