  • Xmas tree dash board..............

    G'day folks,

Got an issue if anyone may be able to help.

My 05 120 vx v6, has abs, traction control, engine and hand brake lights on the dash as well as speedo not working I've just been out for a few days and she copped a fair bit of mud and water......

I've unplugged the wheel sensors and they look clean and dry as well as no breaks in wires that I can see but it is still covered in yuk.......

I've just driven it 500kms home and after about 100kms everything started working again and I cleared the warning lights with my scan gauge. But a few more kms and back to the same....

Anyone had a similar issue and can point me in the right direction as to were to start looking rather than paying half a years wages to Toyota..

I'm in Perth if anyone wants a cash job if I can't fix it...

    Cheers

    Rob

My guess is the alternator has got mud in it. When mine played up I had lights lit up I didn't even no I had lol. I was lucky and when I got home I literally stuck the hose in front of the alternator turned hose on flat out and ran it for about 1/2 hour to try and flush the mud out , all my lights went out and worked fine till the day I sold it. That's just a guess. Cheers

Do you have a trailer plug? You may have a short in the plug socket.

Forgot to mention I'm getting a p0500 code which is a speed sensor, but tomorrow I'll flush the alternator and check my trailer plug as I've just looked and the plug has taken a knock and is full of mud....... Cheers for the suggestions

Had the same symptoms and a rock had bent one of the rear wheel ABS sensors BUT a code reader showed it was the rear wheel sensor. In your case if the reader says speed sensor, check where it /they are and clean them. Good luck.

So i cleaned the trailer plug and the wires are all good, cleaned the engine bay and after 24 hrs everything is back to normal so i guess ill never know what it was till next time it happens......

Ive just noticed my CV boot is cracked which will mean theres mud and crap in there, anyone have recomendations on good priced CV joints for the 120 v6?
Is it worth changing wheel bearings at the same time? they have never been changed or is it better to leave them if not a problem?

My bus has done 340 thou and lots of hard off road kms.
