  • Vibration

Hi guys, i have a 120 series Prado (D4D) is a 08 model auto, bought it second-hand last year with 150.000 km on it. In the last few months i noticed a vibration/rattle in the rear travelling at around 60-70km/h going from 4th to 5th gear and it start to annoy the crap out of me. Just wondering if someone else had the same problem and what i need to do to fix it?

    Cheers,
    Seb

      Who knows?

You need to do more detective work to pinpoint the location of the rattle and maybe what causes it.

Does it make more rattle on rough roads? Is it only making noise while changing gear? Does the noise alter with engine speed or just road speed? If you hold it in 4th gear at that speed and rev up and down, do you hear the noise? Same in 5th gear? Do you hear it more with the windows open? What if you are stationary and rev the engine to the speed at the 4/5 gear change?

Even put someone in the back and get them to try and listen for where the noise comes from. It could be a body rattle, a transmission rattle, or even an exhaust rattle.

        Hey,

        Is it this vibration?

        http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...dder-vibration

Some think it is the injectors on the petrol, but this hasn't worked for me.

You have a diesel, and if you read the thread you'll see it's a common complaint across auto/manual, and both diesel and petrol.

I've given up trying to find it!

        Good luck!

It is on rough and sealed roads, noise is more in the car than outside, noise occur just after shifting from 4th to 5th, so the drone/rattle it is in 5th gear at low rpm, it does feel like is changing the gear to quick. There is no rattle while the car is in "N" or "P" revving at the same rpm's, also i did find out when cold under load (foot on brake while shifting to "R" or "D") the car does vibrates more than usual, just for a short period of time, as soon as it get's warmed up a bit vibration is gone.
Going back to the drone while driving, maybe the best way to explain the noise/drone/vibration is like when you driving on HWY and in some sections if you drive on shoulder line, know as rumble strip, makes the car to vibrate, that is pretty much 90% the noise/vibration what my car does
