  • Shuddering Prado

Only had the Prado for a few days now and there is a very noticeable shudder throughout the car, the speed is always around 58 to 61 kph, any ideas? Does not feel anything like a wheel balance.
    thanks

Might still be the balance - or even the tyres themselves. You could try popping it into neutral while its shaking and see if the problem goes away immediately. If so, that eliminates all but tyres or possibly wheel bearings.

Maybe you could also phone up the seller and ask him what he knows about the problem.

If it is a Grande, check you suspension setting.

When, in the first couple of days I had my truck, I drove it down the freeway at 90-100 ks and the truck shook like buggery! My response? WTF!! The setting was on "comfort". Switched it to "sport" and it was fine. Took the truck back to the dealer and complained. They did a wheel balance etc and said it would be fine. Checked it out on the freeway and it had improved on "comfort" but was still not good. "Normal" and "sport" was and still is fine. My offering was from that experience. Moral? Use "comfort" on your local street and pretend the truck is a limo....otherwise, "sport".

              redclaw,

I have been doing the opposite, sport around town to stop the body roll and on the highway comfort to soak up the bumps. No issues for me on comfort.

                Ditto.

I can run any suspension dampening setting at any speed and it doesnt shudder at all?

I'd still be looking at wheel balance, possible tail shaft out of balance. Changing damper settings maybe highlighting/ masking the problem but I'm doubtful it would be the cause.

Spoke to the seller and he had never noticed any shudder but also said the shockie setting had never been moved from comfort since new ( same as the low range knob!!!)
                    thanks for all your advice
