  • New Prado GX

    G'day Guys,

I have been sitting on the sidelines and doing some research this site is great, and I can see that it will help me alot with future mod's.

I have ordered a GX with the following additions:-

    ARB delux bullbar.
ARB delux roof rack with mesh floor.
    ARB awning.
    ARB safari snorkel.
    Cargo barrier.
    Pirahna dual battery system.
    Window tinting.
Genuine Tow bar (hoping its a round plug)

I am trading my almost brand new GXL ute and will be taking the following accessories with me.

    Lightforce 240 XGT
    UHF GME 3440
    Garmin GPSMAP 276c
    Compressor

I didn't realise how much work there is going to be in stripping all the old accessories and adding them to he Prado - I think I might let the dealer have it and install it all for me. As I have asked that they also re-wire the
power plug in the rear to the AUX battery - also wack in rubber floormats, a dash mat and the rubber cargo mat and she should be on her way to being a pretty comfortable truck!

    Question
What would be the first thing many of you do to your truck's?

    Question
What is the standard ride height like - I'm in a fairly rugged area, but havn't put a suspestion lift on any of my other vehicle's the 70 series ute was fine with most terrain - does anyone know how much of a difference there is between the two, height wise - or is it a case of comparing apples and oranges?

    question
The missus has requested seat covers - I like the canvass seat covers as I can have a dip and not worry about getting 100% dry before jumping in the car - she hates them - can anyone suggest a good pair of seat covers that are comfortable/good looking and still protect the seats from a dirty sometimes wet rear end?

I appreciate your help guys and gals.

    Reece.

first thing i would do is the suspension and tyres. 2 inch lift is the common thing, they dont sit real high and the lift works a treat, there r many brands out there and the improved drivability is great, if ya have any coin left when ya get it, ring around and see if ya can trade ya grandtreks in on a set of decent tyres, some fellas here have been getting aound $100 to 150 trade in per tyre, as for seat covers probably do a search on here and see what ya get. cheers samo
had an 03 gx 120 with some gear now got a 2013 bt 50 GT auto some ARB gear.

Yep lift and tyres, I traded the Grand craps in for BF Goodrich got $150 a tyre so $700 to change over all up. Though considering where you live in you might no be able to shop around.

We have one tyre place here and I dont know if they'd offer a decent price for a trade - I might wait until they have done a few thousand - though, thats what I said about my last 2 cars and never did upgrade!

I'm pretty concerned about the clearance. most of the pictures I'm seeing of standard 120's there doesn't seem to be very much clearance at all - there are a few tracks up here that would scare me a little.

I think the lift would be my next investment - any idea how much the OME 2" lift is? I'd then only have to add 30% for ""freight"" and an aditional 30% for ""I'm going to rip you off because you can't do a thing about it"".

Thanks guys - I should imagine that it'll be about $1700 thereabouts in Nhulunbuy. Might organise the parts and fit it myself.

I was working nightshift last night and do you think I could sleep today - not a chance, kept tossing and turning thinking of potential problems with clearance.

I headed down to the dealer and cracked - you can add a 2" OME suspension upgrade to my list.

I got the bad new though - the delivery time is 8th August. And the reason I got given was that ARB are out of roof racks - its all being fitted in Darwin before going onto the barge to be delivered to me. So this delay is holding everything up.

Its booked into ARM on the 23rd and on the Barge on the 1th August. I'm not known for my patience!

You pictures are my only saving grace!

I am sitting at work counting down the hours until I am able to collect my new Prado.

I had a visit today and saw her seducing me from across the dealership and it was love at first sight - there are a few things to be installed and then she's mine for the taking.

I am happy with the suspension upgrade and I am glad that I chose to get it added as the ride height looks fantastic now. They hadn't installed the cargo barrier, my spotties, uhf or compressor - so hopefully they get their fingers out tomorrow as I'm growing very impatient.

I have printed off some photo's from this forum and gave to the dealer so hopefully they get the compressor and UHF install right - I'd do it myself but we are planning on taking off camping as soon as we pick her up.

I havn't even gotten her yet I've spent a motza already, is there a known cure for the condition we all have?

Here is my list so far - scary becuase I still want to add more!

                    ARB delux bullbar.
ARB delux roof rack with mesh floor.
                    ARB awning.

                            Hi RAV084,
Comprehensive research has found that there is no know cure for this condition. The best solution has been found to keep spending $$$.
Symptons of this condition include sneaking the laptop into bed at night under the blankets, working in the garage late at night under the pretext of looking for something under the seats and looking the missus straight in the eye whilst saying that you don't know where that big bullbar thingy on the front came from
Welcome to the Pradopoint institution for the chronically addicted

                            cheers,

                            Dobbo
