  • Roofrack Storage

    Hi all,
I would just like to share a couple of picture of the system I have set up in my garage to lift my ARB roof rack off the Prado.

The pulley blocks came complete from Bunnings and I reinforced the ceiling where they are mounted with structural pine.

    Cheers,
    Kevin

    nice job.
did the same at my last house.
    handy and easy as.
got to store it somewhere, and these areas are rarely used, so why not.

Nice work Kevin, is that an ARB bar, and if so how long does it take you to detach then reattach :?:

Have contemplated doing the same but space under the carport is minimal, when i eventually get my shed i will sort it.

Yes it is an ARB rack. To take the basket off, about 20 mins, to put it on, about 30 mins, depends how often my helpers interrupt. There are 12 bolts to undo. You need a 6mm ball point hex key because you need to attack most of the bolt heads on an angle. The trick is trying to hang on the to plates that the bolts screw into without dropping them onto the roof and damaging the paint (i have the mesh floor and you need to be fairly dexterous to get ya fingers in the right place). Takes me about another 45 mins to take the rails off and replace the original mounting points.

I tried lifting the basket without any mechanical assistance once...

And then gave up hence the pulley idea.

            Cheers,
            Kevin

              Looks good.

We use this in my warehouse to hold ladders up off the fleet of work vehicles when not needed.

A great tip was finding the pulleys off of sailboats as they have an auto rope locking mechanism. Saves tying each one off

Or you can bring all ropes back to a central point thru pulleys and tie off on a wall at a useable height.

I wonder what it does weigh? Looks about 40 kilo?

heres my roof rack storage system, no complicated pulleys, but it has a self wash and dry system

had an 03 gx 120 with some gear now got a 2013 bt 50 GT auto some ARB gear.

That's a nice method of lifting things on/off.

I wish I could do the same (as there's a rooftop tent on mine), but I haven't been able to fit the vehicle into the garage since it was bought (garage door opening way too low, or vehicle too high), so it has to sit outside anyway.
