  • What is "Normal" Transmission Temps? and easy list of Torque Pro PID codes?

I've recently bought a bluetooth ELM dongle and got it working with Torque Pro.

I've got a couple random codes off the interweb and appear to have 2 different trans temps displayed.

Assuming 1 of these is pan and 1 is Torque converter. However what range is normal? daily driving to work approx 40 minutes both temps sit within 5 or 10 degrees of each other and seems to peak around 60 degrees.

what temps should i be expecting when towing and uphills? 2006 V6 5 speed auto. i'm getting the trans oil changed soon and would like to identify which temps i'm looking at to see if there's any change with fresh oil.

It can take an hour to get to normal desired operating temps.
Depends a lot on your driving.
    You want minimum 70-
    80 is good.
    90 is fine.
100 & you want to take it easy, but still ok.
    110 take it real easy.
120 pull over & rest it.

The hotter it gets the faster the oil oxidises.
Then the oil cannot protect transmission as well.
Oil changes every 50,000k are your friend.

The oil is not totally destroyed in 1 minute of 120 degrees, it all depends how long it spends up there.

I have no issues keeping it 70-90. Sometimes 100 on a big hill or sand dune.

      Thanks ####.

I suspected my daily run wasn't getting it to std operating temp.

The higher of my 2 temps seems to fluctuate more and change quicker. Any guesses on pan or converter ?

Do you use torque app and understand their codes if I post what I'm using.?

Also care to chime in on which trans fluid? I've found a couple trans places quoting around $330 for flush ,filter ,gasket. Compared to 4-500 from a big place in the city and Toyota . I'm just a little paranoid they may use wrong fluid. They tell me its synthetic and correct grade .....

        I'm guessing torque converter.

        #### - are those temps for the torque converter or the pan? I've started taking it easy when the torque converter temp gets > 100 but that's fairly easy to do (even around the city unloaded)

I used to see 80 deg with a scangauge ii. That was the pan sensor never managed to get the torque converter temp. When I towed I could see as high as 100deg and that was only if towing in 5th. Always 80 in 4th.

          Thanks

            Towing a Jayco camper 1500kg.
My temp will sit around 90 deg Then go up from there when i hit a hill or push it to hard.
I have a torque converter lock up switch installed, So when i see the temp rise just flick the switch and the temps drop back down :-)

How are you monitoring the temps of your transmission? I live in Costa Rica and often are in the mountains.
I would like to see the temps of my engine oil and transmission. Thanks

Not sure what Graz used but you can use a scangauge.

                www.scangauge.com

What year and motor type are you driving? The v6 comes with a transmission cooler installed but if you drive a diesel you dont have one as standard and the transmission temps are quite high for normal driving.

                Thanks

If it fluctuates fast, it's the torque converter. IMO Forget it.
Pan temps, is what I refer to.

Easy to manage temps when you understand transmission operation.
Try & keep converter lock once warmed up to 70+.
It should help you keep it under 90 pretty easily. The harder you push, more rpm, not locked, heat will generate fast.
That will be the main reason why v6 has a cooler, much more rpm.

Does anyone have the PID code for a Prado 120 V6 auto 4 speed. I had it working with @Torque@ app but unfortunately this stopped working. I now use @Car-Scanner@ and it works but does not have the Transmission temp.
                          help?
