Can anyone help us out with what could be the cause of metal shavings in turbo? I took the intercooler of my 1kz on the weekend and when I removed the pipe I noticed a few metal shavings in the turbo (aluminium I'm thinking) stuck a magnet down there and nothing stuck to it but definitely metal!

Can you actually remove them? IIRC the inside of that inlet pipe is rough cast and the peaks of the casting show through the dirty oil film and grime that is probably coating everything. Other than that the only inputs are from the aircleaner and intercooler pipes and the EGR pipe from the rocker cover.

I imagine that turbo is a cassette design, so it would almost have to be blade rub on the housing to come from the turbo, only other alloy would be the intercooler itself. Can't imagine any alloy coming from the breather on the rocker cover.Originally posted by BigBlurter View PostYes mate I was able to get a couple of shavings out and definately metal shavings, thinking it could be the turbo itself?
If you can remove the inlet you could give the impeller a spin and see how it feels.
