  • Spares to Carry When going to remote areas.

Apart from the obvious - extra spare tyres etc etc .

Can anyone offer any suggestions regarding what belts and other engine bits to carry??

Spare belts, tape to seal hose leaks (forget the name of the stuff), duct tape, tyre repair kit if well off-road (and compressor of course) are the most important I think.

A lot would depend on the type of terrain you expect, eg sand, mud, rocky, water crossings etc. also the age and mileage of the vehicle and what has already been done. My 120 got a new starter motor recently at about 210k, pulled it apart and the motor brushes were worn right down. No indication prior just wouldn't go one day. Have ordered a new set of brushes in the meantime so will have a spare. Alternator is something else you dont want dying in the middle of nowhere. Get an assortment of fuses, filters especially fuel, belts and hoses, and a well equipped toolkit. If you need to keep weight down don't take the full socket set and spanner set, rather look at the tools you will need to do the basic repairs you have spares for.
