  • Substitute for a roofrack?

I have a Rhino roof rack. With wind drag and fuel consumption etc thinking of custom building one of these modified to my requirements, cost around $600.00

Anyone using a similar product? I've got the billys + ridepro combo to handle the extra weight at the back.

Appreciate any feedback or thoughts. :?
    Cheers,

Be good to knock one up that will still allow for the rear door to be opened without too much drama

my wife boss, just ordered something similar.
      for dirt bike.
      not sold on the idea.
alot of movement from hitch area and then the handle bars near rear window glass. :?

trade in the kids (not worth much $) then use the entire cargo area
      just kidding.
i like the roof racks. just too high sometimes

Years ago I had a carrier for my trials bike which worked really well and now have a similar set up that carries 3 downhill bicycles. Movement is not an issue and I feel better with the bikes supported by the wheels instead of a temporary bar between the seat post and stem. Not much weight though. The trials bike was only 70kg and the three mountain bikes barely 40kg. Don't know how the carryall would work - I know that the one on my tractor is good!

Be careful of state vehicle modification regulations. In Qld there are definate rules on the amount of overhang based on a ratio of wheelbase. From memory I think you are allowed a total overhang of 60% of the wheelbase behind the rear axle so there isn't much room available. My bike rack (just) exceeds what's allowable.

The HitchMate looks kinda interesting - wonder what sort of dollars...??

With the awnings attached, putting my racks on is a two-person job. This looks like it could go on and off quite easily.

I wouldn't buy the hitchmate, poor quality. The concept is good, my BIL is getting custom made to our design with adjustable hitch etc... will post pics when complete. My biggest problem is having to put the roofracks on, then the canvas tent 35kgs 1m x 1m. added to this the wind drag.
