  • changes in VX over the past 3 years?

    Hi,

I had a quick look around at other posts but nothing quite matched what I was after.

I am interested in auto petrol prado with stability control. This I can get in current range (with option packs), or in previous VX models.

Can't afford price of new car, so looking at 2005 VX models. Has there been any significant changes (ie additional airbags, improvements to stability/traction control, minor engine changes) in the last couple of years? or is the 2005 basically the same as the new model.

    Thanks Michael

I think the biggest change, is that 2005 their was no leather, mechanically i think it is the same including traction aid's.

Here is a link to compare the current 2008 GXL which can be optioned up and the 2005 VX.

I didn't have a good look but I think Hutch has pretty much nailed the differences.

The 05 was the last of the 4 speed box?. I think it changes to the 5 speed in October that year?
Apart from that it remained unchanged through from 03 to the update model in 07, I think

I think you might find that all 05s have the 5 speed auto, it was late 04 (september, i think) that saw the change over.

Michael, as for the species, when i checked out the Redbook site i was quite surprised at the upgrades the later model gxls have over my 05 model ... seemed to me to be getting somewhere near to the 05 vx. Also, you might want to check out the real cost difference between a new gxl and an 05 vx. After taking into account depreciation, the benefit of new car warranty, lower service costs ... Especially with some of the Toyota deals happening now. If its a petrol you are looking for, you might want to check out http://www.pradopoint.com/viewtopic.php?t=3221

This is correct - September 2004 - IF IT IS A PETROL.

The diesel was a different injection system and remain a 4spd auto until November 2006. Although I drive a petrol, I think if you ask around you will find the difference between the old diesel and 4spd and new diesel and 5spd is like chalk and cheese.

            Cheers

I had a 05 VX petrol and now have an 08 diesel VX. The previous comments are correct. I wanted a diesel in 05 but thought it better to wait for the upgraded diesel and auto so went petrol then. There's very little difference between the 05 and 08 petrol model. Key differences are leather, steering wheel controls, radio with bluetooth, power seats. The diesel is similar except for the engine and auto upgrades. Features like electronic traction aids, stability control, ABS, airbags are all the same.
