  • Flat battery and jammed door lock can't get inside Prado?

I have a 2004 Prado that has a flat battery and a jammed door lock does anyone have any ideas how I can gain access to the engine compartment or the cabin to replace the battery.

I've tried injecting power through the starter motor terminals but this is difficult to access because of the position the vehicles parked in.

Would it be possible to connect power to the trailer plug connection or is there perhaps some way I can open the bonnet externally?

You got comprehensive insurance? Break a rear window. You should be able to get the glass replaced the same day by OBriens if you call them early in the morning. The claim should cost you nothing to $7 depending on your insurance company.
Your bonnet release lever might be in a near impossible position to pull to the side (left or right) with a bar of some sort. I would try to access the bonnet release first and exhaust that method first, but always remember busting the glass is an easy option.

Trailer plug should have a +ve and -ve that are permanently connected to the battery... make up a one-off plugh that you can fit into the trailer socket, and attach a spare battery to it, to power the remote locking... maybe?

The car is insured but I live in a remote location in the Pilbara it could take a long time to get the glass replaced. Although the driver side window is damaged that could be an option. Thanks for the reply.

I should say that the driver side window is smashed but held in place by the window tint.

OMG haha are you serious??.... Given that you have a broken window already, what is it that you think you could do? Order a new piece of glass for the door afterwards and have it delivered out to you. Fit it yourself if it'd be too difficult to get an auto glass company to do it for you. Claim the new panel on insurance if you like. Simples.

You've gone quiet, but you'd also find a lot of the mine sites out there that have Prados will carry spare glass.. If you get the right guy for the right price, I'm sure anything could be found easily. You'd also find a local wrecker should have something you would think.

                    Have you tried the key?

Had the same issue on my Toyota Camry. This is what I did.
WD-40 in the lock, leave for several hours. Try the lock with the key you don't normally use (not a worn key). Door opened.

My friend faced the same problem. He had a broken window, so he just pushed it, popped the bonnet, and it was done. By the way, is your car insured? If not, I really advise you to find out at least how much is car insurance per month. If your car is insured, it is possible that all damages will be covered. It all depends on the situation in which it happened. My friend's car insurance covered all the costs. I hope you get lucky too. It's already been quite a while, so share how this situation ended...

The key should work in every case - even with a flat battery. Unless, of course, the key-to-lock mechanism has seized.
