  • colour issues

i am soon to order the Prado dieselGX or GXL.The colours seem limited to mica or metallic plus a white/black option.
What are the issues with mica or metallic especially for repairs if there is a small scratch .....
also with accessories such as mud flaps and protectors...is it cheaper to go after market?

Nowadays most 1/2 decent crash repairers can easily fix scrathes and resprating panels. Colour matching is a perfected art nowadays.

I havent looked at aftermarket flaps and stuff, but there is possibly a cost saving in using them.

The gear I have bought along the way (Mats etc) have been genuine and very reasonably priced I thought?

I think there is a couple of existing threads about some of the different air deflectors and stuff on Pradopoint already. May offer some more info?

Mary99 although there is a lot of debate over the clear coat paint protection I've now had a couple of "hits" by bushes and branches etc that I was sure would leave a scratch. No noticeable scratches resulted though. However there is a lot of debate over it and I suggest you read peoples viewpoints on it before you make your own decision. I'm sure there was a thread on it some time ago.

The reason I mention it is because all I do with scratches is use scratch removing polish such as Autoglym Super Resin Polish and I'm able to get them mostly out. Whether having the clear coat protection helps with this I cannot say for sure.

I've looked at some after market bonnet protectors and cargo mats etc and found them to be very similarly priced to products from the Toyota spare parts dept. However, I found a reasonable variation in prices between different dealership spare parts depts though. Some after market stuff is really pretty cheap and nasty too, and you can still pay 70% of the Toyo price. With this in mind I went with Toyota Genuine accessories except for the Sandgrabba floor mats which are brilliant!

You might very well get cheaper products by going after market but make sure a decent enough quality is there.

Got that manual box sorted BPC? No sissy Auto for us huh? 8) 8)

I think you've got to live and let live with the dust on the the darker colours. Shows up like a nudist in church I know, but then, nudists are a bit like that. Especially in summer, a decent wash will maybe last a day before the slightest dew in the morning will make dust glue to your car like rotten tomatoes to a bad politician. To keep a little sanity I've decided to let the dust lie a bit. But damn it looks happening brand spanking clean. 8)

Got the manual all sorted now.... Having no dramas.
Toyota advised me today though that my mats arent allowing me to put the peddles all the way to the floor, so looks like I'll be getting some sandgrabba mats shortly :P

I contemplated washing the beast today but its so windy here at the moment I know that the second I drive out of the car wash it will be all dusty again, so I'll leave it looking filthy for now. Somehow no matter how filthy it is, it seems to turn heads.... Or maybe thats just me

It's both BPC! You know it! 8)

I think I must have left my charisma behind somewhere. As all I've gotten so far is some dimwit going off the deep end at me, and some militant grandma giving me a dose of her model-T horn. If either of those fools wants round 2 though, MR Stebel will have words to say.....

Yeah just go the Sandgrabbas. They really are the goods. People tromp in that much grit and trail gumpf that sometimes I look up expecting 1/2 the freaking mountain to be missing as we drive back to camp. You just unclip and throw it all out. Even saved some takeaway from seeping into the carpet once when I had to slam on the brakes at a roundabout! No sweet and sour carpet for me! No pedal issues with my Sandgrabbas. I think they might even ask if you're manual or auto, can't quite remember if that was the sandgrabba mob though...
